Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Generator Service Engineer to join our engineering team.

\n

This is a field-based position covering customer sites across the North West when required. Applicants must live within a reasonable commuting distance of Preston due to the operational requirements of the role.

\n

We are looking for an experienced engineer with a strong background in industrial diesel generators. You will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, fault finding, repairing and load bank testing diesel generating sets, working on both customer equipment and our own generator hire fleet.

\n

This is a varied, hands-on position suited to an engineer who is confident working independently, diagnosing faults and providing a high standard of service to customers.

\n

Key Responsibilities:

    \n
  • Carry out on-site servicing and maintenance of customer diesel generating sets
  • \n
  • Identify and diagnose electrical and mechanical faults and carry out appropriate repairs
  • \n
  • Test equipment following repairs to ensure correct and reliable operation
  • \n
  • Carry out load bank testing to ensure the efficient running of equipment
  • \n
  • Service and maintain our own generator hire fleet
  • \n
  • Complete pre-hire and post-hire inspections
  • \n
  • Carry out temporary repairs where appropriate to keep customers operational while the correct replacement parts are ordered
  • \n
  • Communicate professionally with customers and provide a positive customer experience
  • \n
  • Ensure equipment, company vehicles and working areas are kept clean and tidy
  • \n
  • Assist with other areas of the operation when required, including generator installations, fabrication work and UPS battery build installations
  • \n
  • Participate in the company's 24/7 call-out rota
  • \n
  • Work away from home occasionally depending on customer and site requirements
  • \n

These responsibilities reflect the servicing, diagnostics, load banking and hire-fleet duties within the role specification.

Essential Experience & Qualifications:

\n

To be considered for this position, you must have:

\n
    \n
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience working within the diesel generator industry
  • \n
  • A recognised Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering qualification
  • \n
  • City & Guilds / NVQ in Engineering, or equivalent relevant engineering qualification
  • \n
  • Hands-on experience servicing, maintaining, fault finding and repairing diesel generators
  • \n
  • Good mechanical and/or electrical fault-finding skills
  • \n
  • A practical and methodical approach to diagnosing and resolving faults
  • \n
  • The ability and aptitude to carry out temporary repairs where necessary to keep customers operational
  • \n
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • \n
  • Willingness to participate in an out-of-hours call-out rota
  • \n
  • Flexibility to work away from home occasionally
  • \n
  • Must live within a reasonable commuting distance of Preston
  • \n

The minimum two years' diesel generator experience, engineering qualifications and call-out requirements are specified within the role specification.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and experience of equipment from a variety of generator manufacturers
  • \n
  • Manufacturer-specific training courses or qualifications
  • \n
  • Experience with load bank testing
  • \n
  • Experience with generator installations and associated equipment
  • \n
  • Knowledge or experience of UPS battery installations
  • \n
  • Clean UK driving licence
  • \n

Manufacturer knowledge and training, the ability to work unsupervised and a clean driving licence are identified as desirable in the specification.
