SEMH Teaching Assistant Location: Manchester Pay Rate: £95–£110 per day DOE Start Date: September 2026 Contract: Full-time, Monday to Friday Are you a resilient and motivated Teaching Assistant who thrives on building positive relationships with young people? Cover People are recruiting an SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary provision in Manchester. This role involves supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to re-engage with education, develop confidence and achieve positive outcomes. The school offers small class sizes, extensive pastoral support and a broad curriculum that combines academic learning with vocational opportunities and therapeutic interventions. The Role: Support students with SEMH needs in lessons and during intervention activities. Develop strong, professional relationships that encourage engagement and progress. Provide 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual learning and wellbeing needs. Assist with behaviour management using positive and restorative approaches. Support pupils in developing social, emotional and communication skills. Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff and therapists to support student development. The Ideal Candidate: Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs. A calm, patient and consistent approach. Strong communication and relationship-building skills. Confidence supporting students who may present challenging behaviour. A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
