Engineering Construction Manager
Job Description
We don’t see roles like this come up very often...
\nThis is an opportunity to step into a key civils position with an established & highly recognisable housebuilder, delivering developments across Central Scotland. It’s a business with a strong pipeline, a solid reputation, and the kind of backing that gives you the tools to do things properly.
\nThey’re now looking for someone who can take ownership of the groundworks and engineering reality on site.
\nNot just reviewing drawings or attending meetings — but actually being there, walking the job, spotting issues early, and making sure things are done right first time.
\nThe role in a nutshell
\nYou’ll be the go-to person across multiple sites when it comes to groundworks and civil engineering.
\nThat means:
\n• Picking up on quality issues before they become problems
\n• Challenging methods that aren’t efficient or cost-effective
\n• Working closely with subcontractors to keep things moving properly
\n• Making sure earthworks and infrastructure are delivered as they should be
\nThere’s support around you — this isn’t a lone wolf role — but you’ll be trusted to use your judgement and experience to influence how sites are delivered.
\nWhat they’re really looking for
\nThe job spec says “Civils Manager,” but in reality they’re open-minded.
\nYou might originally come from:
\n• A strong site engineering background within housebuilding infrastructure
\n• A groundworks background with practical, hands-on experience
\n• Or a blend of both
\nBut these days you’ll be an experienced manager of civil engineering works, likely across residential developments. You’ll likely also have an HNC/HND or degree in civil engineering (or related discipline).
\nWhat matters most is your ability to:
\n• Assess what’s happening on site and sense-check it
\n• Solve problems practically (not just theoretically)
\n• Hold your own with subcontractors and drive standards
\n• Bring a bit of calm, experienced thinking when things aren’t quite right
\nThey’re also open on style.
\nIf you’re more polished, engineering-led, and comfortable in front of clients and authorities — great.
\nIf you’re more of a seasoned, site-first operator who knows how things should be done and isn’t afraid to say it — that works just as well.
\nWhy this one stands out
\n• Established, well-known name in the UK housebuilding market
\n• Strong pipeline of developments across Central Scotland
\n• A role with genuine influence over how sites are delivered
\nThis is the kind of position where your experience actually matters — and where you’ll be listened to.
\nIf this sounds like your kind of role, or you want to explore it confidentially, get in touch.
