A wastewater treatment framework near Oxford has just had its pricing programme pulled forward by six months. That has left the commercial team needing a Managing QS who can take a scope of work and actually run it: CVRs, change, the lot, feeding into the framework lead rather than being managed over the shoulder by them.

If you are a water or infrastructure MQS who is currently one reconciliation among many on a programme you never see the top of, this is a chance to own your packages properly.

• A few things worth knowing before you read on:

• The work is committed, not hoped for. This sits on a long framework with a multi-year order book behind it, so it is not a twelve-month punt.
\n
• You are on site two or three days a week and remote the rest. If you want an office to work from on the other days, there is one near London and one in the Midlands.
\n
• The employer is a family-owned infrastructure contractor marking its 75th year, and one of only around 5% of UK businesses to hold Platinum Investors in People. Water is one of the things they have done longest.
\n
• And there is a genuine circular-economy angle to the project that you do not get on every works upgrade: a phosphorus removal cycle, digestion tanks turning waste into biomass for local farms, and gas generation built into the process.

• What you would be doing

• Owning the cost value reconciliation on your packages.
\n
• Managing subcontract accounts and payments through to final account.
\n
• Running change and keeping the commercial reporting clean for the framework lead.
\n
• And helping bring on a younger commercial team who will learn a lot from someone who has done it properly.

• What you need
\n
• \n
• CVR experience on infrastructure projects. Water is ideal, but an adjacent regulated or complex sector is fine.
\n
• Strong NEC contract experience. You should be able to talk through the options you have worked under and where they bit.
\n
• A tier-one or major contractor background, so you know how framework reporting and governance actually work.
\n
• Around 7 to 10 years in commercial roles.
\n
• If you have those four, I would like to talk. If you are JCT-only, or your background is highways maintenance or fit-out, this one will not be the right fit and I will be straight with you about that rather than waste your time.
