Commercial Solar Design Specialist
Job Description
Commercial Solar Design Specialist | Hybrid Role (Design + Client Facing)
\nWe’re looking for a Commercial Solar Design Specialist who’s just as comfortable building accurate PV system designs as they are sitting in front of a client explaining ROI.
\nThis is a proper split role:
\n- \n
- ~50% detailed commercial solar design work \n
- ~50% client meetings, presentations & technical sales support \n
If you like being stuck behind a screen all week, this won’t be for you. If you like seeing your designs turn into real projects and actually talking clients through them face to face — read on.
\nWhat you’ll be doing
\nDesign side
\n- \n
- Produce full commercial solar PV designs (layouts, string design, shading, yield, electrical schematics) \n
- Carry out remote + on-site assessments to shape accurate system designs \n
- Select panels, inverters, mounting systems and full system components \n
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards, building regs and DNO/grid requirements \n
- Produce clear drawings, specs and handover docs for install teams \n
- Work closely with delivery/installation teams to make sure designs are actually buildable \n
Client side
\n- \n
- Meet commercial clients face to face and present system designs clearly \n
- Break down technical detail into something non-technical stakeholders actually understand \n
- Talk confidently through performance, savings, ROI and payback \n
- Handle technical questions around maintenance, warranties, finance options \n
- Support sales teams in site visits, proposals and technical discussions \n
Other bits
\n- \n
- Support materials lists and equipment ordering where needed \n
- Liaise with suppliers on spec, availability and lead times \n
- Keep up to speed with new tech, products and industry changes \n
What we’re looking for
\nMust have
\n- \n
- 2+ years’ experience in commercial solar PV design \n
- Strong understanding of PV systems, components and standards \n
- Confident communicator — comfortable presenting to clients face to face \n
- Able to explain ROI/payback and system performance clearly \n
- Experience with PV design tools (PVsyst / Helioscope / AutoCAD or similar) \n
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites \n
Nice to have
\n- \n
- Strong knowledge of grid connection / DNO processes \n
- Experience with battery storage / EV integration / wider energy systems \n
- Supplier or materials specification experience \n
- Exposure to commercial energy project delivery \n
What you get
\n- \n
- Competitive salary (based on experience) \n
- Hybrid mix of office, design work and site/client visits \n
- Varied projects — no two weeks the same \n
- Real input into projects from concept through to delivery \n
- Opportunity to work on meaningful commercial solar builds \n
If you want a role where your designs don’t just sit in a folder and you actually get in front of clients to see projects move forward — this one’s worth a look.
