Director of Event Operations

The Executives in Sport Group
London, ENG, GB Full Time

Job Description

6-month fixed-term contract - Can be structured as an FTC or freelance engagement

\n

\n

We are supporting a high-profile organisation to appoint an Interim Event Operations Director for a 6-month fixed-term contract.

\n

\n

This is a senior role for someone who understands the pressure, pace and detail of major live events. You will be joining an organisation with a nationally recognised brand, a busy events calendar, and significant public, partner and stakeholder visibility.

\n

\n

The role will suit an experienced event operations leader who has delivered major live, broadcast-facing or reputationally sensitive events across sport, entertainment, culture, ceremonies, venues or rights-holder environments.

\n

\n

The impact you will make

\n
    \n
  • You will review the current event operations model and help strengthen the way major events are planned, governed and delivered.
  • \n
  • You will assess current processes, identify gaps, improve controls, and create clear recommendations around event readiness, risk, escalation and delivery.
  • \n
  • You will work across internal teams, production partners, venues, broadcasters, suppliers, agencies, sponsors and senior stakeholders to ensure responsibilities are clear and delivery standards are consistent.
  • \n
  • You will bring structure to complex event environments, covering operating plans, rehearsals, run-of-show, accreditation, security, accessibility, guest movement, talent or VIP logistics, supplier management and contingency planning.
  • \n
  • You will help create confidence at senior leadership and Board level, showing what has changed, what needs to improve, and how future events should be delivered.
  • \n
\n

\n

What you will bring

\n
    \n
  • You will have senior experience in event operations, ideally across major live events, broadcast-facing events, sport, ceremonies, entertainment, culture, festivals, premium venues or rights-holder environments.
  • \n
  • You will understand how high-profile events work behind the scenes. You will know where risk sits, how responsibilities need to be mapped, how escalation should work, and how to build practical plans that support delivery under pressure.
  • \n
  • You will bring experience across event readiness, stakeholder coordination, supplier and venue management, production interfaces, guest experience, accessibility, security, accreditation and post-event review.
  • \n
  • You will be calm, structured and credible. You will know how to move quickly without unsettling teams. You will be able to diagnose issues, build trust, tighten processes and turn lessons learned into practical change.
  • \n
  • This is not a purely creative events role. It is not a sales or hospitality-only role. It is an operational leadership role for someone who can improve the system behind major events.
  • \n
\n

\n

Relevant backgrounds may include:

\n
    \n
  • Major sports events
  • \n
  • Broadcast or televised events
  • \n
  • Awards or ceremonies
  • \n
  • Entertainment or cultural events
  • \n
  • Rights-holder event operations
  • \n
  • Premium venue operations
  • \n
  • Large-scale public events
  • \n
  • Production or agency-side event delivery
  • \n
\n

\n

If you have led or improved the operating model behind complex live events, we would welcome a conversation.
