Assistant Building Surveyor
Job Description
A growing London consultancy is looking for an Assistant Building Surveyor ready to gain broader project experience, take on more responsibility and progress towards chartership.
\nThe successful Assistant Building Surveyor will join a close-knit practice known for combining practical advice with a personal service. The team works across commercial offices, residential blocks and education property, giving junior surveyors direct exposure to clients, contractors and senior decision-makers rather than keeping them behind the scenes.
\nThe Assistant Building Surveyor Role
\nThe Assistant Building Surveyor will support projects from initial survey and feasibility work through to tender, construction and completion. You will work alongside chartered surveyors but will be expected to take ownership of defined tasks as your confidence grows.
\nThe workload includes refurbishment schemes, planned maintenance programmes and professional instructions such as defect diagnosis, schedules of condition and dilapidations. With fewer layers than a large corporate consultancy, good work is noticed quickly and progression is based on contribution rather than time served.
\nThe team is selective about the work it takes on, placing emphasis on clear advice, sensible workloads and long-term client relationships.
\nDuties of the Assistant Building Surveyor to include:

- Assist with contract administration under JCT contracts \n
- Undertake measured, condition and building surveys \n
- Prepare specifications and schedules of work \n
- Support tendering and contractor analysis \n
- Attend meetings and complete site inspections \n
- Assist with defect diagnosis and technical reports \n
- Contribute to dilapidations and party wall instructions \n
- Maintain APC records and complete structured training \n
The Person?
\nThe successful Assistant Building Surveyor will have a sound academic base, some consultancy experience and a clear intention to become chartered.
\nThe Assistant Building Surveyor will ideally have:

- A RICS-accredited Building Surveying degree \n
- At least 12 months' relevant experience \n
- Exposure to project or contract administration work \n
- Strong written and verbal communication skills \n
- The confidence to work with clients and contractors \n
- A practical approach to problem-solving \n
- A full UK driving licence \n
