Bandsaw Operator / Steel Warehouse Operative

About the role
\nWe are a busy steel stockholding business based in Birmingham and are looking for an experienced Bandsaw Operator / Steel Warehouse Operative to join our warehouse team.
\nThis is a hands-on role suited to someone with practical experience cutting steel or metal products, operating bandsaws safely, reading cutting lists and measurements, and working accurately in a busy warehouse environment.
\nThe successful candidate must be reliable, safety-conscious, physically capable, and able to work as part of a team to help ensure customer orders are cut, prepared and dispatched on time.
\nMain duties
\n- \n
- Operate bandsaw machinery to cut steel and metal products to customer requirements. \n
- Read and follow cutting lists, order paperwork and measurements accurately. \n
- Measure, mark and prepare steel sections before cutting. \n
- Check cut sizes and quantities before passing work to the next stage. \n
- Handle steel products safely and carefully. \n
- Use forklift equipment where required, subject to valid licence and training. \n
- Support loading, unloading, goods-in, goods-out and general warehouse duties when needed. \n
- Keep the cutting area clean, organised and safe. \n
- Follow health and safety procedures at all times. \n
- Report machine issues, stock problems, damages or shortages to the supervisor. \n
- Work with the warehouse team to help orders move through the business efficiently. \n
Essential requirements
\n- \n
- Previous experience operating a bandsaw or cutting steel/metal products. \n
- Forklift experience. \n
- Able to read measurements, cutting lists and order paperwork accurately. \n
- Comfortable working with steel, metals or heavy industrial products. \n
- Good attention to detail and accuracy. \n
- Physically capable of carrying out manual warehouse duties. \n
- Reliable, punctual and able to work Monday to Friday, 8am-6pm. \n
- Able to follow instructions and work safely. \n
- Good teamwork and communication skills. \n
Desirable experience
\n- \n
- Experience in a steel stockholding, metal processing, manufacturing, engineering or construction-materials environment. \n
- Current forklift licence. \n
- Experience using overhead cranes or other warehouse lifting equipment. \n
- Experience preparing customer orders for dispatch. \n
- Basic stock control or goods-in/goods-out experience. \n
Working arrangements
\n- \n
- Full-time, permanent position. \n
- Monday to Friday, 8am-6pm. \n
- One hour unpaid break per day. \n
- 45 paid hours per week. \n
- Salary £35,000-£40,000 per annum, depending on experience. \n
- Paid monthly. \n
- Fully on-site at Birmingham B18 7AD. \n
- Start date as soon as possible. \n
