Hays Property and Surveying are seeking an Associate Building Surveyor to join the Winchester office of an internationally renowned, multidisciplinary property consultancy.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Associate Building Surveyor to join the rural division of a leading global property consultancy. This is a client-facing role within a highly regarded team advising private estates, rural landowners, institutions, charities and businesses on a varied portfolio of residential, agricultural and heritage property.

The successful candidate will play a key role in leading and delivering professional building surveying and project consultancy advice, working closely with colleagues across estate management, rural consultancy, planning and architecture. This is a strong platform for an experienced surveyor who enjoys technical variety, client relationships and the opportunity to lead and develop the building consultancy offering for the Winchester office.

The role will be based in central Winchester, with a hybrid working arrangement available.Your new roleAs Associate Building Surveyor, you will take responsibility for managing and delivering a broad range of instructions, providing practical, commercially aware advice to clients with complex and often unique property assets.

  • Deliver building surveys, condition reports, schedules of condition and planned maintenance advice.
  • \n
  • Prepare specifications, tender documentation and contract administration for repair, refurbishment and improvement projects.
  • \n
  • Advise on conservation, repair and adaptation of historic, listed and traditional rural buildings.
  • \n
  • Provide project management and employer's agent services across a varied rural and estate-based portfolio.
  • \n
  • Support clients with procurement strategy, contractor appointments and works delivery.
  • \n
  • Prepare dilapidations advice, reinstatement cost assessments and technical due diligence reports.
  • \n
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted day-to-day contact on key instructions.
  • \n
  • Work collaboratively with internal specialists to provide joined-up advice across rural estates and landholdings.
  • \n
  • Contribute to business development, client care and the continued growth of the regional building consultancy offering.
  • \n

What you'll need to succeed

  • MRICS qualification is essential.
  • \n
  • Strong technical building surveying knowledge across professional and project work.
  • \n
  • Experience within rural, heritage, estate or high-value residential property would be advantageous, although candidates from broader consultancy backgrounds will also be considered.
  • \n
  • Excellent report writing, communication and client management skills.
  • \n
  • Commercially minded, organised and able to manage competing priorities.
  • \n
  • A proactive approach to business development and delivering excellent client service.
  • \n
  • Interest in rural property, estates, heritage buildings and long-term asset stewardship.
  • \n
