Esher, Surrey -Full Time | 37.5 Hours per Week

We are recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join a specialist independent school in Esher that supports children and young people aged 7-17 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. About the School

This specialist provision has been designed to provide a calm, nurturing and structured environment for pupils who may have experienced challenges in mainstream education. With small class sizes, high staff-to-pupil ratios and a trauma-informed approach, the school enables young people to feel safe, develop confidence and re-engage with learning. The curriculum combines academic and vocational pathways, tailored to individual strengths, interests and aspirations.

Working closely with education professionals, therapists and families, the school takes a holistic approach to supporting every learner's educational, emotional and social development.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom. You will deliver targeted interventions, provide 1:1 and small group support, and help create a positive learning environment where pupils can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high quality classroom, small group and one-to-one learning support.

• Support pupils with personalised learning plans and individual targets.
\n
• Help pupils develop confidence, resilience and positive engagement with learning.
\n
• Work alongside teachers to deliver a broad, relevant and differentiated curriculum.
\n
• Promote positive behaviour through consistent application of behaviour support strategies.
\n
• Monitor and report on pupil progress and development.
\n
• Contribute to pupils' emotional wellbeing and personal development.
\n
• Work collaboratively with teaching, therapeutic and pastoral teams.
\n
• Maintain a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

• Has experience working with children or young people, ideally within SEND, SEMH or alternative provision settings.
\n

• Builds positive and trusting relationships with young people.
\n
• Is patient, resilient and passionate about supporting vulnerable learners.
\n
• Works effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
\n
• Has a strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
