Embedded Software Engineer – MATLAB/Simulink and Electric Vehicles

\n

Warwick/Hybrid | £55,000–£75,000

\n

VIQU has partnered with a leading manufacturer of specialist commercial vehicles.

\n

The business is recruiting an Embedded Software Engineer to support a major vehicle development programme, replacing an existing platform with a new electric vehicle platform.

\n

You will develop and integrate production-intent embedded software, turning stakeholder requirements into vehicle functionality and control systems. This is a hands-on engineering role covering model-based development, software implementation, systems integration, verification and vehicle testing.

\n

You will work with MATLAB/Simulink, Embedded C/C++ and vehicle communication technologies, supporting the software through model, software, hardware-in-the-loop and vehicle-based testing. The position also offers involvement in vehicle commissioning, calibration, functional safety and embedded cybersecurity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop embedded control software for an electric vehicle application.
  • \n
  • Use MATLAB/Simulink and model-based development techniques to implement vehicle functionality.
  • \n
  • Translate stakeholder requirements into production-quality embedded software.
  • \n
  • Integrate software into a new vehicle platform and support production deployment.
  • \n
  • Use software verification tools to assess code coverage and software structure.
  • \n
  • Implement and execute tests that demonstrate compliance with defined requirements.
  • \n
  • Support model-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop and vehicle testing.
  • \n
  • Assist with vehicle commissioning, calibration and debugging.
  • \n
  • Contribute to functional safety and cybersecurity analysis, implementation and testing.
  • \n
  • Work with the wider engineering team to meet tight, project-driven deadlines.

Core Technologies

Embedded C/C++; MATLAB/Simulink; Model-Based Design; V-Model; CAN bus; embedded debugging and calibration tools; X-in-the-loop testing; vehicle diagnostics

Key Requirements

\n
    \n
  • Around five or more years of commercial embedded software development experience.
  • \n
  • Experience developing production-quality embedded software and control systems.
  • \n
  • Strong MATLAB/Simulink or comparable model-based development experience.
  • \n
  • Good understanding of the V-Model software development lifecycle.
  • \n
  • Automotive, vehicle or closely related engineering experience.
  • \n
  • Experience with vehicle communication protocols such as CAN.
  • \n
  • Practical experience of commissioning, testing, calibration and debugging.
  • \n
  • Understanding of functional safety concepts.
  • \n
  • Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
  • \n
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex technical subjects.
  • \n
\n

Experience with electric or hybrid vehicles, ASPICE, ISO 26262, ISO 21434, automotive diagnostics, cybersecurity or software release processes would be advantageous.

  • Salary of £55,000–£75,000.
