Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Environmental Advisor to support the delivery of major construction and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring environmental compliance, driving best practice, and helping project teams minimise environmental impacts while meeting client, legal and company requirements.Location : Predominantly Havant Thicket Reservoir, with occasional travel to Thames Water and Southern Water projects across the South of the UKRole DescriptionThis is a full-time, permanent contract Environmental Advisor role at Ward & Burke, joining our Southern SHEQ team. The role will be predominantly based on our Havant Thicket Reservoir project, with occasional support required across our Thames Water and Southern Water projects. The ability to travel between these project locations when needed will be important.Key ResponsibilitiesEnvironmental Planning & CompliancePrepare, review and maintain Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs).Develop environmental risk assessments, aspects and impacts registers, and project environmental documentation.Ensure projects comply with environmental legislation, permits, consents, client standards and company procedures.Provide practical environmental advice and support to project teams throughout the project lifecycle.Monitoring & ReportingCarry out environmental inspections, audits and compliance monitoring across construction sites.Produce environmental inspection reports and track corrective actions through to close-out.Analyse environmental performance data and identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.Prepare monthly environmental reports for clients and senior management teams.Monitor key environmental performance indicators, including waste, energy, water consumption and carbon data.Ecology & Environmental ProtectionLiaise with ecological consultants, environmental specialists and regulatory bodies.Review ecological reports and ensure mitigation measures are implemented on site.Support the management of protected species, invasive species and habitat protection requirements.Assist project teams in implementing pollution prevention and environmental protection measures.Stakeholder & Client EngagementWork closely with project managers, engineers, site managers and client representatives.Attend client meetings and environmental review meetings.Support the resolution of environmental complaints, incidents and regulatory enquiries.Promote positive environmental behaviours and environmental awareness across project teams.Auditing & Continuous ImprovementUndertake internal environmental audits against ISO 14001 and company management systems.Support external audits conducted by clients, regulators and certification bodies.Assist with environmental incident investigations and root cause analysis.Identify lessons learned and opportunities for continual improvement.Training & CommunicationDeliver environmental inductions, toolbox talks and awareness briefings.Mentor and support site teams on environmental best practice.Contribute to the development of environmental procedures, guidance and standards.Essential RequirementsDegree, HND or equivalent qualification in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Ecology, Geography or a related discipline.Previous environmental experience within construction, civil engineering, utilities or infrastructure projects.Good knowledge of UK environmental legislation and environmental permitting requirements.Experience preparing and reviewing CEMPs and environmental management documentation.Experience conducting environmental inspections and audits.Strong report writing and data analysis skills.Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.Full UK driving licence.Desirable RequirementsMembership of IEMA or equivalent professional body.IEMA Foundation, Practitioner or Associate Membership.ISO 14001 auditing qualification.Experience within the water, utility or infrastructure sectors.Knowledge of biodiversity, ecology and environmental permitting.What We're Looking ForThe ideal candidate will be:Organised and detail-oriented.Comfortable working independently and as part of a project team.Confident communicating with clients, regulators and site personnel.Passionate about environmental protection and continuous improvement.Solutions-focused with a practical approach to environmental management.What Ward And Burke Can Offer YouCompetitive salaryCompany vehicle or vehicle allowanceMileage allowanceBe involved in projects from start to finishTraining and support for professional developmentTPBN1_UKTJ
