Cover Teacher
Job Description
Brighton College Prep School is seeking to appoint a Cover Teacher to work on a zero-hours basis. The role of the Cover Teacher is to teach a class, in the absence of their regular class teacher. They will be expected to teach effectively and to undertake pastoral and general teaching duties in order to provide high quality education and continuity to pupils. They will be responsible for undertaking all of the duties expected of the teacher, on the designated day.
\nKey Responsibilities:
\nTo be responsible for the teaching of all subjects except those taught by specialist teachers, according to school policies and schemes of work.
\nTo ensure medium-term and short-term planning is undertaken in accordance with school policy.
\nTo collaborate with parallel teacher(s) regarding termly and weekly planning, and with other staff to ensure continuity and pupil progression.
\nTo ensure that the range of abilities among children is catered for through planned differentiated activities.
\nTo ensure monitoring, recording, assessment, and reporting are undertaken in accordance with school policies.
\nTo mark work appropriately and as promptly as possible in accordance with the marking policy, providing individual feedback and encouragement whenever possible.
\nTo take P.E. lessons (excluding swimming) in the case of specialist P.E. teacher absence.
\nTo rehearse and direct children for concerts and services, in liaison with the specialist music teacher.
\nTo be responsible for the pastoral care of the children in the class and ensure good personal relationships are fostered between the children and teacher.
\nTo be responsible for the behaviour and discipline of children in the class in accordance with the school behaviour policy.
\nTo eat lunch with the children and monitor lunchtime behaviour.
\nTo liaise closely with the Head of Year and other relevant staff members regarding any children of concern.
\nTo ensure that the classroom provides a stimulating and interesting learning environment.
\nTo participate in the appraisal process.
\nTo be responsible for the organisation of classroom resources, ensuring they are accessible to children as appropriate, including appropriate reading books.
\nTo ensure home/school reading diaries are read daily by the class teacher and comments are made as appropriate to ensure good communication.
\nTo ensure all paperwork is up to date and accurate (registers, profiles, health matters, etc.).
\nTo be prepared to market the school by speaking to prospective parents visiting the classroom, attending open evenings, and acting as an ambassador for the school.
\nTo be responsible for the care, security, and maintenance of resources and equipment in their own classroom and throughout the school.
\nTo undertake all duties and procedures as specified in the staff handbook.
\nTo attend daily assemblies and services, upholding the fact that Brighton College has a Christian foundation.
\nTo attend Parent Association events and other evening/weekend events.
\nTo attend staff and curriculum meetings, including occasional whole-school meetings.
\nTo be prepared to attend INSET sessions (sometimes during evenings and weekends) and undertake continuous professional development.
\nTo be willing to lead an after-school activity club.
\nTo be a good role model in respect of speech, dress, behaviour, and care of equipment.
\nTo ideally have experience in EYFS and KS1.
\nTeachers should be prepared to teach all pupils from Nursery to Year 6.
