Reed Education are currently recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant on behalf of a specialist education setting in Doncaster. This is a full-time position starting in September 2026, supporting primary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and trauma-related behaviours.

This role would suit a resilient and nurturing individual who is passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes both academically and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities\n
    \n
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to primary-aged pupils with SEMH needs.
  • \n
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with children who may have experienced trauma.
  • \n
  • Support pupils in managing emotions, behaviour and engagement within the classroom.
  • \n
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams to implement support strategies.
  • \n
  • Encourage emotional regulation, resilience and positive social interactions.
  • \n
  • Promote a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • \n
The Ideal Candidate\n
    \n
  • Experience supporting primary school-aged children with SEMH needs and trauma.
  • \n
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • \n
  • Patient, empathetic and resilient approach.
  • \n
  • Ability to build rapport quickly and maintain professional boundaries.
  • \n
  • Previous experience within an SEMH, SEN, PRU or alternative provision setting is desirable.
  • \n
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
  • \n
