Location: JBLM (Tacoma, WA)

Shift: Mon - Fri (Flexible hours & days)

Duration: 1 Year Contract (with high likelihood of extension up to four years)

Pay Rate: $70-$100

Summary:

A global professional services firm specializing in architecture, engineering, environmental, and construction services (disclosed upon screening call) is seeking an experienced Construction Inspector to support ongoing airfield improvement projects at Joint Base Lewis-McCord. This role will focus on the inspection and oversight of runway, taxiway, and airfield pavement repair projects, ensuring construction activities comply with project plans, specifications, safety requirements, and owner standards.

The ideal candidate will have experience inspecting heavy civil construction projects within an active airport environment, with a strong understanding of airfield paving operations, quality assurance, and contractor coordination.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily inspection of runway, taxiway, and apron rehabilitation projects.
  • Monitor asphalt and concrete paving activities to ensure compliance with design specifications and project requirements.
  • Verify contractor workmanship, materials, testing procedures, and safety compliance.
  • Document daily construction activities, quantities, field observations, and project progress.
  • Review and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and construction schedules.
  • Coordinate with contractors, project engineers, JBLM Representatives, and airport operations personnel.
  • Support quality assurance and quality control processes, including pavement testing and material verification.
  • Participate in construction meetings and communicate project issues, risks, and field concerns.
  • Monitor construction activities within active airfield environments while maintaining compliance with airport operational requirements.


Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of construction inspection experience on heavy civil, transportation, or military projects.
  • Experience inspecting airport runway, taxiway, pavement, or airfield rehabilitation projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of asphalt paving, concrete paving, grading, drainage, and utility construction.
  • Strong written documentation and communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license, ability to work in active construction environments, and ability to obtain DOD badging.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting projects for the FAA, USAF, or WSDOT.
  • Previous experience at commercial airports or Airbase McCord
  • Knowledge of FAA airfield design and construction standards.
