Bring your expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) to a rewarding contract position as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting students in an educational setting. In this vital role, you’ll foster communication and inclusion, helping Deaf and hard-of-hearing students access classroom content and participate fully in school activities.

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably within a school environment
  • Understanding of educational settings and commitment to supporting diverse learners
  • Familiarity with interpreting protocols and best practices
  • Ability to work collaboratively with educators, specialists, and school staff
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Relevant certifications or credentials, as required by state or local guidelines

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Interpreting spoken language into ASL and vice versa for students, teachers, and other staff in classroom and school-related activities
  • Facilitating clear communication during lessons, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular events
  • Supporting student engagement, comprehension, and participation in academic and social aspects of school life
  • Confidentially handling sensitive information and maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • Collaborating with teaching teams and support staff to ensure accommodations are in place
  • Adapting interpreting techniques to meet individual student needs
