Location: Chicago - northwest side
Job Type: Full-Time | Exempt
Salary: $70,000-75,000 annually

About the Opportunity

A well-established mission-driven organization serving diverse communities throughout the Chicago area is seeking an experienced Senior HR Generalist to join its Human Resources team. This role is ideal for an HR professional who is passionate about creating a positive employee experience while ensuring compliance, operational excellence, and organizational effectiveness. Working closely with leadership, this individual will help drive key people initiatives, support workforce engagement efforts, and oversee critical HR programs including benefits administration, leave management, employee relations, compliance, and performance support.

What you'll do:

Benefits Administration
  • Manage employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, retirement, disability, and voluntary benefits.
  • Lead new hire enrollments, open enrollment, and life event changes.
  • Reconcile benefit invoices and ensure payroll deduction accuracy.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with benefits vendors and employees.
Leave & Employee Relations
  • Administer FMLA, ADA accommodations, workers' compensation, disability, and other leave programs.
  • Support employee relations matters, workplace investigations, and performance management.
  • Provide support and guidance to leadership on performance management, coaching, and corrective actions.
Compliance & HR Operations
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, HR policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain personnel records, HRIS data, and reporting.
  • Facilitate onboarding and offboarding.
  • Monitor mandatory trainings, certifications, and regulatory requirements; support internal audits.
Qualifications:

Required
  • 5+ years of HR experience with 2+ years in benefits administration.
  • Leadership experience within Human Resources
  • Hands-on experience with FMLA, ADA, workers' compensation, and leave management.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, compliance, and HR best practices.
  • HRIS experience, preferably Paylocity.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
  • Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, social services, or mission-driven organizations.
  • Employee relations investigation experience.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
