Industrial/Civil Engineer - Quality Control Department Director

Job Post Summary

The Industrial/Civil Engineer will lead and oversee quality control operations for concrete production and field performance. This role is responsible for managing QC teams, developing and optimizing concrete mix designs, ensuring compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, and ACI standards, conducting testing and analysis, troubleshooting concrete performance issues, and supporting pre-construction planning. The ideal candidate will have strong concrete industry experience, QC leadership capabilities, and certifications related to concrete testing and DOT requirements.

Job Roles and Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage all quality control operations related to concrete production and field performance.

  • Lead, train, and supervise Quality Control Technicians.

  • Review project specifications and recommend appropriate concrete mix designs for estimating and production.

  • Develop, submit, maintain, and optimize concrete mix designs based on project requirements.

  • Participate in pre-bid and pre-construction planning activities.

  • Perform laboratory and field evaluations to monitor concrete performance.

  • Conduct concrete and aggregate testing according to ASTM, AASHTO, ACI, and DOT standards.

  • Manage trial batch preparation, material testing, batching, and performance evaluation.

  • Analyze compressive strength results, gradations, and testing data to improve product quality.

  • Maintain QC documentation, reports, testing records, and mix design databases.

  • Investigate customer complaints, jobsite issues, and concrete performance concerns.

  • Provide technical solutions related to concrete quality and production issues.

  • Maintain laboratory organization, equipment calibration, and inventory control.

  • Coordinate with dispatch, customer service, production, and field teams.

  • Ensure compliance with quality procedures, safety requirements, and certification standards.

  • Maintain laboratory certifications and support OSHA/MSHA compliance requirements.

Qualifications and Certifications

Bachelor's degree preferred in:

  • Civil Engineering

  • Construction Management

  • Concrete Technology

  • Industrial Engineering

  • Related Engineering discipline

Minimum 5+ years of experience in:

  • Ready-mix concrete

  • Concrete quality control

  • Construction materials testing

  • Civil construction

Required Certifications:

  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I Certification

  • DOT Certification

Preferred Certifications:

  • ACI Level II Certification

  • OSHA Certification

  • MSHA Certification

Strong knowledge of:

  • ASTM standards

  • AASHTO standards

  • ACI standards

  • Concrete mix design principles

  • Aggregate testing procedures

Proficiency in:

  • Microsoft Excel

  • Word

  • Outlook

  • QC reporting systems

  • Strong analytical, mathematical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
