Data Center Technician
Job Description
We are seeking a Field Service Technician to support the installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of critical electrical power systems at customer sites throughout the region. This is a highly hands-on role for an experienced technician who enjoys solving complex electrical issues, working directly with customers, and supporting mission-critical environments including data centers and industrial facilities.
The ideal candidate has experience with switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, low- and medium-voltage power systems, and commissioning activities. This position offers strong growth potential into future Site Lead and leadership opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Perform on-site troubleshooting, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of electrical power systems.
- Support startup, commissioning, testing, and energization activities.
- Service and maintain switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, power distribution systems, and industrial controls.
- Conduct preventive maintenance inspections and identify potential system issues before failures occur.
- Serve as the primary customer contact during field service visits and provide technical support and recommendations.
- Train customers on proper operation and maintenance procedures.
- Complete service reports, testing documentation, and maintenance records accurately.
- Track inventory, labor hours, and service activity using company systems.
- Collaborate with engineering, project management, and service teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Utilize remote troubleshooting tools when applicable.
- Follow OSHA, NFPA, and company safety procedures at all times.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on field service experience supporting electrical systems.
- Strong troubleshooting experience with:
- Switchgear
- Transformers
- Circuit breakers
- Electrical power distribution systems
- Experience working with low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical equipment.
- Previous experience supporting data center, mission-critical, industrial, or similar electrical environments.
- Experience with commissioning, startup, and system testing activities.
- Ability to diagnose, repair, and maintain electrical equipment in the field.
- Experience interacting directly with customers and resolving technical issues on-site.
- Willingness to travel 30-50% with overnight stays as required.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and OSHA compliance.
- High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field.
- NFPA 70E Certification.
- OSHA 30 Certification.
- Experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, or protective relays.
- Protective relay testing and preventive maintenance experience.
- Familiarity with field service software, ERP systems, and maintenance tracking tools.
- Experience using electrical testing equipment such as:
- Multimeters
- Breaker test sets
- Power quality analyzers
- Insulation resistance testers
- Interest in growing into a Site Lead or leadership position.
