Principal Electrical Engineer
Job Description
Must-Haves:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Active PE License
- 7-10+ years of electrical design experience, preferably within data centers, critical facilities, or industrial environments
- Expertise in medium/low-voltage power distribution, backup and emergency power, grounding, lighting, telecom, and security systems
- Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA, IBC, IEC, and related electrical codes
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and BIM coordination tools
- Experience with SKM, ETAP, EasyPower, or similar analysis software, including arc flash, short circuit, load flow, and coordination studies
- Ability to serve as Engineer of Record and stamp/sign drawings
- Strong client-facing communication skills and willingness to travel up to 25%
Plusses:
- 10+ years of experience supporting data center infrastructure projects
- Experience with Elum Tools, BIM360, EDSA, EasyPower, and telecom/fire alarm design
- Strong understanding of data center design standards and mission-critical infrastructure
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and mentoring junior staff
- Knowledge of both performance-based and prescriptive design methodologies
- Background in quality assurance, innovation, and solutions that improve facility performance and client outcomes
Day-to-Day:
The Principal Electrical Engineer will lead the design and execution of electrical infrastructure for data centers and mission-critical facilities, overseeing medium- and low-voltage power distribution, backup power systems, and electrical studies. This individual will serve as the Engineer of Record, perform arc flash, short circuit, load flow, and coordination analyses, ensure compliance with industry codes and standards, and collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams throughout project delivery. The role also includes supporting BIM coordination, reviewing technical deliverables, driving reliability and efficiency improvements, and providing technical leadership on complex projects.
