Mechanical Design Engineer

Position Overview

A growing industrial engineering organization is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design, development, and execution of custom equipment and process system projects. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex engineering challenges throughout the full project lifecycle, from initial concept development through installation and commissioning.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, project managers, vendors, and customers to deliver high-quality solutions that meet technical, schedule, and budget objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Design
  • Review project specifications, contract requirements, and technical documentation to ensure compliance with project scope and customer requirements.
  • Design and develop mechanical equipment, assemblies, and supporting systems for industrial applications.
  • Perform equipment sizing, component selection, and engineering calculations to verify system performance and functionality.
  • Design and support process-related systems, including piping, structural, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
  • Develop foundation loading information and technical support documentation for equipment installations.
  • Prepare technical specifications for equipment, components, and process systems.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable industry codes, standards, and internal quality requirements.
Project Execution
  • Support procurement activities through technical evaluations and equipment requisitions.
  • Review vendor drawings, technical submittals, and equipment documentation for compliance with project requirements.
  • Coordinate with engineering disciplines to develop and release detailed fabrication and construction drawings.
  • Provide technical support to project teams throughout execution.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, operating procedures, and engineering reports.
  • Participate in installation, commissioning, startup, and acceptance activities as needed.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and adherence to quality management processes.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 1-3 years of engineering or design experience within industrial manufacturing, process industries, heavy equipment, or similar technical environments.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic system design principles.
  • Understanding of mechanical design fundamentals, including machine components, structural systems, and piping systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, technical specifications, and related documentation.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, or comparable 2D/3D CAD software.
  • Exposure to finite element analysis (FEA), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), or other engineering simulation tools.
  • Experience supporting capital equipment, manufacturing systems, industrial processes, or custom-engineered products.
  • Familiarity with industry codes, safety standards, and engineering best practices.
