Digital Imaging Specialist | Full-time | Pittsburgh, PA (100% Onsite)
Direct Hire | $65,000 - $70,000+ (based on experience)
We are seeking a Digital Imaging Specialist to support advanced microscopy, digital pathology, and whole-slide imaging (WSI) operations within a research-focused laboratory environment. This individual will play a key role in image acquisition, quality assurance, data management, and imaging system maintenance while supporting histology and pathology workflows.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Operate manual, motorized, and automated digital microscopy systems, including light and fluorescence microscopy.
- Perform whole-slide imaging (WSI) scanning, image acquisition, post-scan quality reviews, and image processing.
- Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure diagnostic-quality imaging and proper data de-identification.
- Upload, manage, archive, and organize imaging data within Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Monitor imaging system performance, storage utilization, and data archival requirements.
- Troubleshoot software and hardware issues and serve as a primary resource for imaging equipment support.
- Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and alignment of imaging systems to ensure optimal performance and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with histology teams to provide specimen quality feedback and support laboratory operations.
- Collect, organize, and analyze project data while assisting with research activities, manuscript preparation, and algorithm-related initiatives.
- Partner with external imaging vendors to resolve technical issues and support operational workflows.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree required (equivalent combination of education and experience considered).
- Minimum 2 years of experience in digital imaging, slide scanning, microscopy, histology imaging, or related laboratory environments.
- Experience with database management and maintaining data systems.
- Knowledge of microscopy staining techniques and pathology workflows.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate, high-quality work.
- Excellent troubleshooting, organizational, and data management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Bioinformatics or related field.
- Experience working with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Experience supporting digital pathology, research imaging, or histology laboratories.
- Familiarity with fluorescence microscopy and image analysis workflows.
