Job Description
Make a difference in students’ lives as a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter supporting a high school student who is fluent in American Sign Language, located near Thurmont, MD. This rewarding contract role begins August 24, 2026, and continues through June 11, 2027, with the possibility for Extended School Year (ESY) services. Enjoy a full-time schedule in an engaging educational setting, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience providing sign language interpretation in educational settings
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter preferred
- Comfortable working with high school students
- Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers, staff, and families
- Familiarity with Deaf culture, particularly students coming from specialized schools
- Professionalism and strong interpersonal communication
Primary Responsibilities:
- Facilitate clear communication between the student and educational staff through high-quality sign language interpretation
- Support full access to the academic environment and extracurricular activities
- Adapt interpreting methods to class content and student needs
- Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all interactions
- Provide occasional support during sports-related events, if needed
- Collaborate regularly with the student’s IEP team to ensure educational goals are met
