Special Education Teacher - Elgin, Illinois

An exciting opportunity awaits skilled special education professionals passionate about supporting the behavioral and emotional development of students. This contract position focuses on teaching in a middle school BEST (Behavioral and Emotional Supported Teaching) classroom for grades 6-8, in a mostly self-contained environment. The classroom serves a small, focused caseload of 9-10 students who benefit from specialized strategies tailored to their unique needs.

The schedule runs Monday through Friday, 7:50 am to 3:10 pm, providing consistency and stability for both educator and students.

Desired Qualifications & Experience:

• Valid Special Education teaching license appropriate for middle school (grades 6-8)
• Expertise working with students identified with behavioral and emotional needs
• Knowledge of individualized instruction, social-emotional learning, and positive behavioral interventions
• Demonstrated ability to build strong, supportive relationships with students and collaborate with families and related service providers
• Organized, patient, and flexible approach to teaching in a self-contained environment
• Experience with IEP development, progress monitoring, and data-driven instruction

Key Responsibilities:

• Create and implement lessons that address the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional goals outlined in student IEPs
• Foster a positive, structured classroom environment where students feel safe and supported
• Utilize evidence-based behavioral interventions and supports tailored to individual student needs
• Collaborate with paraprofessionals, therapists, and school staff to optimize student success
• Regularly communicate with families regarding progress and strategies for continued growth
• Maintain thorough documentation related to student progress, behavior, and IEP compliance
