Job Description
Step into a rewarding contract opportunity as a Special Education Teacher for a multi-needs K-2 classroom. This position is designed to cover a leave of absence, beginning August 11 and lasting through at least September 23, with potential to extend. Located near Elmhurst, IL, this in-person assignment offers a meaningful chance to make a direct impact in a supportive educational environment.
In this self-contained classroom, you'll work with a small caseload of four students with significant disabilities. Students receive instruction in core subjects within the classroom and participate in general education for portions of their day. As the lead teacher, you’ll coordinate with paraprofessionals to ensure each child receives consistent support and individualized attention.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Special Education Teaching license/certification
- Experience working with elementary-aged students, preferably within a multi-needs or self-contained setting
- Strong understanding of IEPs, differentiated instruction, and behavioral strategies
- Ability to work collaboratively with paraprofessionals and related service providers
- Patience, adaptability, and compassionate communication skills
Primary Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement specialized instruction for students with significant disabilities in grades K-2
- Collaborate with paraprofessionals to provide comprehensive classroom support
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and structured learning environment
- Adapt general education curricula for diverse learning needs
- Document student progress and maintain compliance with IEPs
- Communicate regularly with families and school team members
This role offers full-time commitment with a guaranteed 35 hours weekly, following a steady 8:00 am to 3:15 pm schedule. You'll work closely with a dedicated team focused on promoting student growth and success.
