Accounts Payable Specialist | Kansas City, MO Full-Time | Contract-to-Hire| $24-28ph. LHH is partnering with a well-established construction organization seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Specialist to support daily accounting operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely processing of invoices, vendor payments, subcontractor documentation, and project-related expenses. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and have prior experience supporting accounting functions within the construction, engineering, or contractor services industries. The Company will consider qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and/or security clearance requirements, including, as applicable:
- Process high-volume vendor and subcontractor invoices accurately and efficiently
- Perform three-way matching of invoices, purchase orders, and receiving documentation
- Maintain vendor records and ensure accurate payment information
- Prepare weekly check runs, ACH payments, and wire transfers
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve invoice discrepancies
- Assist with month-end close activities, including AP reconciliations and accruals
- Review invoices for proper coding, approvals, and sales/use tax compliance
- Work closely with project managers and field personnel to obtain approvals and support documentation
- Monitor lien waivers, certificates of insurance, and subcontractor compliance documentation
- Maintain organized accounting records and support audit requests
- 2+ years of Accounts Payable experience
- Prior experience in construction, engineering, contracting, manufacturing, or a project-based environment preferred
- Understanding of job costing, purchase orders, and subcontractor invoicing is highly desirable
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- High school diploma required; associate's degree in accounting, Finance, or Business preferred
