Teacher for the Visually Impaired | Ladson, South Carolina
Job Description
Empower students with visual impairments to thrive academically and personally as an itinerant Teacher for the Visually Impaired on a contract basis. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with multiple school sites and support students’ unique learning needs for an extended term through June 2027.
In this position, you’ll deliver specialized instruction and adapt curriculum materials, ensuring access and inclusion for all learners. Your expertise will have a lasting impact on students, families, and school teams.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid South Carolina teaching certificate with a Visually Impaired (VI) endorsement required
- Previous experience teaching or supporting students with visual impairments preferred
- Strong knowledge of assistive technology, braille, large print, and adaptive devices
- Effective communication skills with students, staff, and families
- Proven ability to travel between schools to provide direct and consultative services
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction based on IEP goals to elementary and secondary students with visual impairments
- Assess students’ needs and develop individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Adapt classroom materials and teaching strategies to facilitate access to the general curriculum
- Collaborate with general and special education staff to model and support best practices
- Maintain documentation, progress reports, and compliance with state and federal requirements
- Serve as an advocate for students by facilitating access to assistive technology, orientation and mobility, and additional resources
This full-time, 35-hour per week position starts as soon as possible and continues through June 4, 2027. School assignments may vary and require flexibility in travel between sites.
