LHH Recruitment Solutions is searching for an Accountant, for a potential contract-to-hire opportunity, working with a non-profit company, located in the Eastend of Richmond, VA.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm
Position Summary: handle the day-to-day financial transactions and recordkeeping for a portfolio of 19+ local, state, and federal grants totaling approximately $9M in annual revenue. This is a hands-on accounting role focused on accurate, timely processing and reconciliation of grant-related financial activity.
Key Responsibilities:
• Process accounts payable transactions related to grant-funded programs
• Enter and maintain detailed transaction-level data in the general ledger, applying consistent coding conventions across a large and steady volume of activity
• Code and allocate expenses across multiple grants and funding sources accurately
• Prepare and submit grant drawdowns and reimbursement requests to funders on schedule
• Maintain in financial accounting system the accounts receivable entries related to grant reimbursement submissions
• Track expenditures against grant budgets by line item, flagging over/under-spending for review
• Compile supporting documentation (invoices, timesheets, receipts) for reimbursement submissions and audits
• Support internal and external audits, including preparation of workpapers and responding to auditor requests
• Assist with monthly internal review of grant activity and supporting documentation
• Respond to funder requests for backup documentation and financial detail
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
• 3+ years of professional accounting experience
• Direct experience with government grant accounting (federal, state, or local)
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP
• Nonprofit (501c3) accounting experience preferred
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills; able to manage multiple
priorities and deadlines
Highly Preferred: • Oracle NetSuite experience is a significant plus
Contract Pay: $25 to $27 an hour
