Senior Quantity Surveyor
Job Description
Senior Quantity Surveyor – Electricity Networks
\nLocation: Wakefield / Leeds – approximately two days per week
\nCoverage: Northern England
\nSalary: (Up to) £75,000 + company car or car allowance + pension
\nThe opportunity
\nA growing UK power infrastructure contractor is recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor for its Northern Networks business.
\nThe company delivers long-term electricity distribution frameworks covering substations, overhead lines, underground cabling, asset replacement, network maintenance and associated civil engineering.
\nIts northern portfolio includes a high volume of individual schemes at different stages of delivery, supported by a strong and sustained pipeline of work. The Senior Quantity Surveyor will act as the commercial lead for an operating unit, working directly with the Operations Director and regional delivery teams.
\nThis is a hands-on role for someone comfortable taking ownership of a portfolio, providing clear commercial direction and maintaining control across multiple live schemes.
\nThe role
\nYou will be responsible for the commercial performance of a regional portfolio from initial instruction through to final account.
\nKey responsibilities will include:
\n- \n
- Reviewing and administering NEC and bespoke framework contracts. \n
- Producing accurate CVRs, cost forecasts and monthly commercial reports. \n
- Preparing and managing quotations, applications and valuations. \n
- Ensuring client instructions and orders are in place before work progresses. \n
- Identifying, recording and managing contractual change. \n
- Monitoring cost, value, cash flow and project performance. \n
- Managing subcontract procurement, payments and final accounts. \n
- Leading client-facing commercial discussions and negotiations. \n
- Working closely with operations to improve project records and commercial controls. \n
- Advising delivery teams on contractual risk, entitlement and recovery. \n
- Challenging operational decisions where they could affect cost or contractual position. \n
- Closing out completed schemes and preventing delays to applications, invoicing and final accounts. \n
The role will initially require a high level of independence. As the northern workload continues to grow, there will be scope to support and develop additional commercial staff and progress towards Commercial Manager.
\nExperience required
\nApplications are welcomed from contractor-side Senior Quantity Surveyors with experience across one or more of the following:
\n- \n
- Electricity distribution or transmission. \n
- DNO frameworks. \n
- Power, substations or HV cabling. \n
- Utilities or water frameworks. \n
- Civil engineering and infrastructure. \n
- High-volume maintenance or regional framework contracts. \n
Direct electricity-network experience would be beneficial, but strong candidates from other regulated utilities or NEC-based infrastructure sectors will also be considered.
\nYou should be able to demonstrate:
\n- \n
- Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts. \n
- Ownership of CVRs and cost-to-complete forecasting. \n
- Experience managing multiple projects or work orders concurrently. \n
- Commercial control from quotation through to final account. \n
- Confidence dealing directly with clients and operational teams. \n
- Experience managing subcontractors and supply-chain accounts. \n
- The ability to identify contractual risk and protect commercial entitlement. \n
- The confidence to operate independently at Senior Quantity Surveyor level. \n
The company
\nThe employer is part of a financially secure, privately owned UK engineering group with no group debt and a long-term commitment to the power sector.
\nIts electricity-infrastructure business has grown significantly over the past two years, supported by increased UK investment in:
\n- \n
- Replacement of ageing network infrastructure. \n
- Grid reinforcement and resilience. \n
- Electrification and electric-vehicle demand. \n
- Renewable-energy connections. \n
- Battery storage and major private grid connections. \n
Growth is spread across multiple clients, frameworks and UK regions rather than being dependent on one project.
\nPackage and working arrangements
\nThe package includes:
\n- \n
- £75,000 salary. \n
- Company car or car allowance. \n
- Employer pension contribution of up to 8%, subject to employee contribution. \n
- Discretionary year-end bonus potential. \n
- Approximately two days per week with the commercial team in the Wakefield/Leeds area. \n
- Travel across the northern project portfolio when required. \n
- Clear progression towards Commercial Manager as the regional team develops. \n
