Job Title: Welding & Precision Assembly Technician
\nLocation: Whitney
\nSalary: £35,000 - £40,000
\nHours: 8am-4:40pm Mon – Thurs / 8am-1pm Fri
\nRole Purpose
\nWe are seeking a skilled, practical technician to manufacture and assemble high-quality cryogenic products. This is a hands-on role with a strong emphasis on precision welding, soldering, brazing and mechanical assembly. The successful candidate will produce neat, accurate and leak-tight assemblies from stainless steel, copper and other materials, working carefully to engineering drawings and defined quality standards.
\nExperience in TIG welding, soft soldering and silver brazing/hard soldering would be highly advantageous. However, we will also consider candidates with strong mechanical aptitude, excellent attention to detail and a genuine willingness to learn specialist cryogenic manufacturing techniques.
\nKey Responsibilities
\n- \n
- Manufacture and assemble nitrogen and helium transfer lines, vacuum components, pipework and other related cryogenic products. \n
- Carry out high-quality TIG welding, particularly on thin-wall stainless-steel components and tube assemblies. \n
- Perform accurate soft soldering and silver brazing/hard soldering on copper, brass, stainless steel and mixed-material assemblies. \n
- Assemble small, delicate and close-tolerance components with a high level of care and precision. \n
- Fit tubes, flanges, connectors, vacuum fittings and mechanical components in accordance with drawings and specifications. \n
- Use jigs, fixtures, gauges and measuring equipment to maintain alignment and dimensional accuracy. \n
- Carry out tube preparation, forming, bending and fitting where required. \n
- Inspect welds, soldered joints and completed assemblies for workmanship, conformity and leaks. \n
- Diagnose and rectify leaks, poor joints, misalignment and other manufacturing defects. \n
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, bills of materials and manufacturing instructions. \n
- Contribute to improvements in welding methods, assembly processes, tooling and product quality. \n
Essential Skills and Experience
\n- \n
- Practical experience in welding, soldering, brazing, precision assembly or mechanical fabrication. \n
- Good hand skills and the ability to carry out detailed, controlled work. \n
- Strong mechanical fitting and assembly capability. \n
- Experience using workshop hand tools, power tools and measuring equipment. \n
- Ability to read and work from engineering drawings. \n
- Ability to work accurately with small components and close-tolerance assemblies. \n
- A methodical approach to joint preparation, assembly and inspection. \n
- Willingness to learn specialist cryogenic and vacuum manufacturing processes. \n
Highly Desirable Skills
\n- \n
- TIG welding of stainless steel, particularly thin-wall tube and precision components. \n
- Soft soldering experience on copper and brass assemblies. \n
- Silver brazing or hard-soldering experience. \n
- Experience joining dissimilar metals. \n
- Tube fitting, tube bending and pipework fabrication experience. \n
- Experience with vacuum systems, cryogenic equipment, scientific instrumentation or high-vacuum components. \n
- Experience working in a precision engineering, aerospace, scientific, medical or specialist manufacturing environment. \n
- Comfortable working on both one-off and repeat production assemblies. \n
