Your new companyOn behalf of Birmingham City Council, we are recruiting a Neighbourhood Support Officer to join a busy and rewarding housing service supporting communities across Birmingham. Your new roleThis is a full-time position working Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, on an initial four-month contract with the potential for extension and longer-term opportunities as the service continues to grow. Covering locations across Birmingham, you will work closely with Housing Officers to support the effective management of council tenancies and neighbourhood services.The role will involve supporting residents with a wide range of housing-related enquiries, maintaining accurate case management records and responding to complaints and service requests within agreed timescales. You will undertake tenancy visits, estate inspections, surveys and site visits, gathering information and producing reports to support housing management activities. You will assist with tenancy enforcement activities, investigate breaches of tenancy conditions, support responses to complaints and public liability claims, and help identify and report potential housing fraud.You will be responsible for signposting residents to relevant support services, providing advice on housing matters and welfare changes, and escalating complex issues to Housing Officers where appropriate. The position also involves attending tenant meetings, participating in multi-agency working arrangements and encouraging resident engagement to help deliver a comprehensive landlord service across Birmingham's communities.

What you'll need to succeedTo be successful in this role, you will have experience in a customer-facing housing, community, tenancy support, enforcement or neighbourhood services environment. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with residents and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.You will be organised, proactive and confident managing a varied workload, maintaining accurate records and producing clear reports. Experience carrying out home visits, inspections, investigations or tenancy-related casework would be highly beneficial. A good understanding of housing services, safeguarding and customer service principles will help you succeed in this role.Due to the nature of the position, you must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to your own vehicle, as regular travel across Birmingham will be required.

What you'll get in returnIn return, you will receive a pay rate of £13.45 per hour plus holiday allowance, giving a total rate of £15.07 per hour for the first 12 weeks. Following this period, the pay rate increases to £15.03 per hour plus holiday allowance, equivalent to £17.60 per hour in total. You will gain valuable experience working within one of the UK's largest local authority housing services, helping to support residents, improve neighbourhoods and deliver meaningful outcomes for communities across Birmingham. This role also offers the potential for contract extension and future permanent opportunities within the council.
