Health and Safety Manager
Job Description
We are Birmingham-based Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) building services contractor with over 40 years of industry experience.
\nWe deliver high-quality engineering solutions for clients across the commercial, retail, education, healthcare, industrial, public sector, and residential sectors throughout the UK.

\n\nKey Responsibilities
\n\nPolicy Development and Implementation: Develop, update, and enforce comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures to comply with local, national, and international regulations, ensuring best practices are followed across all operations
\n\nRisk Management and Hazard Identification: Conduct regular risk assessments and inspections to identify hazards in workplaces, projects, and operations. Implement mitigation strategies to control or eliminate risks
\n\nIncident Investigation and Reporting: Lead investigations into accidents, near misses, or safety incidents. Determine root causes, implement corrective actions, and report findings to senior management and regulatory authorities as required
\n\nTraining and Awareness: Design and deliver health and safety training programs for employees, contractors, and subcontractors. Ensure all personnel understand and follow safety procedures
\n\nCompliance and Audits: Monitor compliance with health and safety legislation and standards. Conduct audits and inspections, follow up on corrective actions, and maintain accurate documentation of all H&S activities
\nEmergency Preparedness: Develop and review emergency response plans for scenarios such as fires, medical emergencies, or hazardous spills. Train staff in emergency procedures
\n\nLeadership and Culture: Advise senior management and boards on H&S matters, promote a positive safety culture, and coordinate with leadership across departments to integrate H&S into organizational strategy
\n\nReporting and Performance Monitoring: Track H&S performance metrics, identify trends, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders, including compliance with regulations like RIDDOR
\n\nRequired Skills and Qualifications

- Educational Background: Typically a Level 6 qualification such as a diploma or degree in occupational health and safety, environmental health, or a related field \n
- Knowledge of Legislation: Strong understanding of health and safety laws, regulations, and standards relevant to the industry. \n
- Analytical Skills: Ability to conduct risk assessments, analyze incidents, and develop mitigation strategies. \n
- Communication Skills: Capable of advising leadership, training staff, and promoting safety awareness across all levels of the organization. \n
- Leadership and Coordination: Experience in managing H&S teams, coordinating audits, and embedding a safety culture throughout the organization \n
Additional Responsibilities

- Maintain H&S documentation, including policies, procedures, audits, and training records \n
- Ensure sufficient resources and personnel are available to meet H&S requirements, including first aiders, fire wardens, and local H&S officers \n
- Support strategic planning for H&S initiatives and continuous improvement programs \n
- This role is central to preventing workplace incidents, protecting employees and visitors, and ensuring organizational compliance with health and safety regulations, while fostering a proactive and positive safety culture throughout the company or institution \n
