Job Purpose:

\n

To work directly with young people aged 16 to 25 on a one-to-one basis, providing tailored support to help them overcome challenges and achieve their goals. This role involves conducting comprehensive assessments to identify each individual's needs, aspirations, and any personal, social, or systemic barriers that may be preventing them from engaging in education, training, volunteering, or employment opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

    \n
  • To design and deliver employability skills training including job search CV writing, interview skills and work ethics
  • \n
  • To provide continued support throughout the young person's journey including longer term in-work support and to promote independence and confidence in the young person enabling them to undertake assigned meaningful work
  • \n
  • Manage a caseload, providing ongoing support to young people both through 1-1 and group engagement
  • \n
  • Provide financial literacy support through the completion of benefit checks, budgeting sheets, referrals where needed to more specialist services, for example health and wellbeing services and debt
  • \n
  • Keep abreast of all training, volunteering and employment opportunities in order to support young people to make informed decisions around their future goals and aspirations
  • \n
  • Have regular contact (using a case work approach) with those you are supporting and take reasonable steps to reestablish contact if this is lost
  • \n
  • To have a knowledge of safeguarding issues relating to young people
  • \n
  • To ensure that casework records are maintained in accordance with the project's policies and procedures
  • \n
  • To evaluate the support provided to each young person pre and post intervention.

Learning, Development & Training

  • Keep up to date with legislation, case law, policies and procedures relating to the role and service needs
  • \n
  • To keep up to date with the company’s mandatory training requirements keeping own CPD up to date as required
  • \n
  • Read relevant publications.
  • \n
  • Attend relevant internal and external meetings as agreed with the line manager.
  • \n
  • Prepare for and attend supervision sessions/team meetings and forums as appropriate.
  • \n
  • Assist with Service initiatives for the improvement of services.
  • \n

Networking

  • To network and attend promotional events, raising awareness of the project and building partnership links with those organisations that play a role in the young person's work journey
  • \n
  • To develop close and effective working relationships with key agencies to identify the needs of young people and the barriers they face
  • \n
  • To liaise with other agencies, especially training, volunteering, post 16 education, and employment, taking reasonable steps to ensure the young person makes use of such services and opportunities
  • \n

Operational duties

  • Further the aims of Citizens Advice Sandwell & Walsall and its activities by working within all agreed policies
  • \n
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date written records of contact with the young person
  • \n
  • Be responsible for ensuring that all Child & Adult Protection Policies are adhered to and concerns are raised in accordance with these policies
  • \n
  • Provide monitoring information as required
  • \n

  • Experience of working and engaging with young people.

  • Relevant experience of supporting individuals in training, volunteering and employment opportunities.

  • Experience of supporting individuals with financial literacy

  • Experience of monitoring own service delivery against prescribed targets

  • Ability to commit to and work within the aims, principles and policies of the Citizens Advice service

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and with external organisations

  • Confident in using IT systems and databases to record and manage casework
