Financial Controller Coleshill, Birmingham£65,000–£85,000 depending on experiencePermanent | Full-time | Office-based Are you an experienced manufacturing finance professional who wants to be closer to the operation, influence commercial decisions and play a key role in the growth of a successful privately owned business? We are recruiting a Financial Controller for an established British manufacturer based in Coleshill. The company is entering an exciting period of growth, with plans to increase turnover significantly over the next three years and develop further areas of the business. This is a broad, hands-on Financial Controller position with real influence. You will take ownership of the finance function, work closely with the Factory and Sales Directors and become an integral member of the senior management team. You will not be confined to producing reports from behind a desk. You will be expected to understand how the business manufactures its products, challenge margins and costs, identify important commercial issues and provide the directors with the insight needed to make informed decisions.The roleYou will be responsible for:\n

  • Producing a full monthly management accounts pack.
  • \n
  • Providing clear commentary and analysis to the directors.
  • \n
  • Managing budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow reporting.
  • \n
  • Taking ownership of standard costing and inventory accounting.
  • \n
  • Investigating material usage, yield, labour, purchase price and overhead variances.
  • \n
  • Improving product, customer and order profitability reporting.
  • \n
  • Reviewing stock valuation and supporting stock-control processes.
  • \n
  • Managing VAT and other financial compliance requirements.
  • \n
  • Working closely with the factory to understand production performance.
  • \n
  • Challenging pricing, margins and commercial decisions where appropriate.
  • \n
  • Identifying significant orders, risks and opportunities.
  • \n
  • Reporting at board meetings and contributing to the wider management team.
  • \n
  • Managing and developing one member of the finance team.
  • \n
  • Supporting the company’s ambitious growth plans.

The personThis opportunity would suit an established Financial Controller, Finance Manager, Site Finance Manager or senior manufacturing accountant who is ready to take greater ownership. You should have:\n

  • Strong experience within a genuine manufacturing environment.
  • \n
  • A clear understanding of how products are made, costed and valued.
  • \n
  • Practical experience of standard costing and manufacturing variances.
  • \n
  • Experience of inventory accounting and stock valuation.
  • \n
  • The ability to produce a complete set of management accounts.
  • \n
  • Strong commercial awareness and the confidence to challenge senior colleagues.
  • \n
  • The ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
  • \n
  • A hands-on approach suited to a growing, owner-managed business.
  • \n
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • \n
  • Experience of manufacturing ERP systems.
  • \n
Experience of Syspro or Sage would be useful, although candidates with strong experience of other manufacturing systems will also be considered. A CIMA, ACCA or ACA qualification is preferred. However, an exceptional qualified-by-experience candidate with extensive manufacturing and costing expertise may also be considered. Experience within plastics, extrusion, automotive supply, engineering, industrial products or another complex manufacturing environment would be particularly relevant. Why consider this opportunity? Working arrangements This is an office-based position in Coleshill, working Monday to Friday, typically 9:00am–5:00pm. The role requires someone who wants to be present in the business, work closely with the factory and sales teams and become involved in day-to-day operations.
