We are seeking an experienced Project Manager – Heritage Works to join our specialist heritage construction and restoration business.

\n

Based from our office in Penkridge, Staffordshire, this is a practical, hands-on role managing heritage, refurbishment and conservation-led projects across the Midlands. Unlike large main-contractor developments, our projects require close attention to detail, careful planning and a collaborative approach to delivering high-quality work on historic buildings.

Salary\n

£45,000–£50,000 per annum (higher salary may be considered for candidates with exceptional experience), plus the potential for a company vehicle or vehicle allowance and possible performance-related benefits.

Key Responsibilities\n
    \n
  • Take day-to-day responsibility for the successful delivery of small heritage and refurbishment projects.
  • \n
  • Manage two small works teams, including two Team Leaders and approximately eight employees overall.
  • \n
  • Plan and sequence projects, typically valued at around £40,000.
  • \n
  • Turn agreed scopes of work into practical and achievable site delivery plans.
  • \n
  • Ensure labour, materials, subcontractors and site access arrangements are in place.
  • \n
  • Monitor project progress, quality, safety and costs against agreed expectations.
  • \n
  • Maintain accurate site records, photographs, task updates and progress reports.
  • \n
  • Ensure RAMS, task instructions and site-control procedures are followed.
  • \n
  • Identify potential issues early and escalate significant concerns to the Managing Director.
  • \n
  • Communicate professionally with clients, consultants, suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • \n
  • Coordinate subcontractors and suppliers to support effective project delivery.
  • \n
  • Promote high standards of workmanship, organisation, cleanliness and site discipline.
  • \n
  • Use project management and compliance software to record labour, tasks, photographs, quality checks and site progress.
  • \n
  • Ensure Team Leaders and site operatives consistently follow the company's digital processes.
  • \n
  • Support the continued development and improvement of our project delivery systems.
  • \n
Skills & Experience\n
    \n
  • Previous experience managing construction, refurbishment or small works projects.
  • \n
  • Experience supervising tradespeople, Team Leaders or small site teams.
  • \n
  • Strong practical understanding of construction site delivery.
  • \n
  • Heritage, listed building or conservation experience would be highly advantageous.
  • \n
Preferred Skills & Experience (Not Essential)\n
    \n
  • Experience within traditional building repair, specialist refurbishment or high-end residential projects would be beneficial.
  • \n
  • Knowledge of traditional materials or techniques, including lime, stone, timber, roofing or windows, would be advantageous.
  • \n
  • Confidence managing practical site teams within a small or medium-sized contractor.
  • \n
  • Good understanding of health and safety, RAMS and site-compliance requirements.
  • \n
  • SMSTS or SSSTS qualification would be advantageous.
  • \n
  • CSCS card is expected.
  • \n
