Job Description
Title: LSC-Certified Life Safety Code Surveyor Duration: 12+ Months Pay Rate: $40-$45/hr Travel: Significant statewide travel within Arkansas Position Summary: The Life Safety Code Surveyor conducts onsite evaluations of nursing and long-term care facilities to determine compliance with applicable CMS Life Safety Code and emergency preparedness requirements associated with participation in Medicare and Medicaid. The Surveyor evaluates the physical environment, fire protection systems, building features and related life-safety conditions using applicable CMS survey protocols. The LSC surveyor must be LSC certified and must complete applicable training consistent with CMS Admin Info 24-04-LSC. Responsibilities: Conduct pre-survey and office preparation. Review previous LSC findings, deficiencies, Plans of Correction and relevant facility information. Conduct entrance conferences and onsite preparatory activities. Conduct an orientation tour of the facility. Inspect physical plant and building conditions relevant to CMS Life Safety Code compliance. Evaluate applicable fire-protection and life-safety systems. Gather documentary, observational, and interview evidence. Evaluate identified conditions against applicable CMS survey requirements. Analyze observations and findings to determine whether deficiencies exist. Develop defensible supporting evidence for identified deficiencies. Participate in survey-team analysis and decision-making. Conduct or participate in exit conferences. Complete CMS-required LSC documentation, forms and reports. Document findings in accordance with CMS Principles of Documentation. Coordinate findings with nursing/health surveyors when physical-environment issues affect resident health and safety. Track and report survey time as required. Maintain applicable LSC credentials and CMS-required training throughout the contract. Required Qualifications: Current/valid Life Safety Code Surveyor certification/qualification acceptable for CMS nursing facility surveys. Completion of required CMS LSC surveyor training. Demonstrated knowledge of CMS Life Safety Code survey methodology. Knowledge of applicable CMS requirements and survey procedures. Ability to inspect and evaluate healthcare facility physical environments. Ability to interpret applicable building, fire, safety and emergency-preparedness requirements. Strong inspection, investigation, documentation and report-writing skills. Ability to travel throughout Arkansas for multi-day survey assignments. Ability to satisfy required background checks. Ability to comply with confidentiality, security and State requirements. Preferred Experience: 3+ years conducting healthcare facility Life Safety Code inspections or CMS surveys. Previous work for a State Survey Agency or CMS-related survey organization. Nursing-home/LTC facility survey experience. Experience documenting CMS deficiencies. Experience evaluating healthcare occupancies, fire/life-safety systems and emergency preparedness. Familiarity with Plans of Correction and revisit surveys.
