Bluewater Marine is now hiring shipfitters for the nation's largest shipyard - Huntington Ingalls Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, VA. Experience - 4 or more years of commerical or naval ship experience as a first class Shipfitter

Required Skills

\n
    \n
  • Multi-Pass Tack Welding - Utilization of the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) process in vertical and overhead positions. A 12 inch section will be tested in order to qualify
  • \n
  • Burning and Heating - Proficiency with Oxygen/Propane Burning Torch with the ability to bevel
  • \n
  • Comprehension - Ability to understand complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints and sketches including weld symbols, material types, datum and reference line. Also need the ability to comprehend fractional dimensions using a ruler
  • \n
  • Layout and Assembly - Ability to layout and assemble structural pieces in accordance with specifications in a quality manner
  • \n
  • Gouging - Experience with Air Carbon Arc Gouging
  • \n
  • Work Planning - Ability to utilize work packages and drawings to plan and execute work
  • \n
  • Shell Plates - Ability to erect, set and makeup complex shaped shell plates
  • \n
  • Decks and Bulkheads - Ability to erect, set and makeup decks, bulkheads, longitudinal trunks, etc.
  • \n
  • Hull Inserts - Ability to intall and replace hull inserts and penetrations as well as install miscellaneous and complex foundations
  • \n
  • Physical Environment - experience working in a physically demanding environment (shipbuilding, steel fabrication, etc.)
  • \n
  • Tools - Proficient in the use of vibratory tools (grinders and needle guns) *Tools are provided on the job site and personal tools are not required. Safety equipment (PPE) will be provided by Bluewater Marine

In addition to having these required skills, all applicants must:

  • Be a US citizen
  • \n
  • Able to speak, read and understand the English language
  • \n
  • Able to pass a criminal background investigation
  • \n
  • Able to pass a hair follicle drug test (HFT)
  • \n
  • Must be able to work any shift
  • \n
