An opportunity has arisen within this Fire Service's Governance, Projects and Collaboration section for an Authority Governance Officers based in Sheffield, with agile working including home working, fire stations and other sites as required.

Location: Sheffield S1 – Agile working

Hours: Full Time – 37 Hours per week (Flexi Time)

\n

Contract: Permanent

\n

Salary: £28,598- £31,022 (Grade 5) *To increase subject to national pay award negotiations for 2026

\n

The overall purpose of the role will be to support the efficient and effective delivery of the service's Authority governance and administration arrangements, including other internal and external governance arrangements as appropriate.

\n

To be considered for this role you will have previous experience of providing governance and administration support.

\n

You must possess an awareness of how fire and rescue services are managed and have knowledge about the service's governance model and processes.

\n

The key duties will include working closely with the Legal and Monitoring Officer to plan out all the Fire and Rescue Authority meetings, book and organise the meetings, provide meeting support, create meeting packs, minutes and relevant documentation, and to support the co-ordination of annual reports and assessments.

New starters will commence on the bottom of the salary grade and will receive increases to the top of the grade on an incremental basis. The employer offers 28 days annual leave (pro-rata) plus Bank Holidays. Annual leave increases after 5 years’ service to 32 days, followed by an extra day a year up to a maximum of 37 days. They also operate a generous flexi time attendance scheme.

Most of their corporate roles offer flexi time and agile working, meaning people can vary their hours to suit their commitments outside of work as agreed with their line manager. Flexi time can be accrued with a potential of up to 13 days to be taken within a year.

All eligible corporate staff are auto-enrolled onto the Local Government Pension Scheme with personal contributions ranging from 5.5% to 12.5%. It is a defined benefit pension scheme that means pensions are based on salary and the length of paying into the scheme. 1/49th of your pensionable salary is added to your pot per year plus cost of living adjustments.
