Freelance Interactive Designer
Job Description
Freelance Interaction / Motion Designer (Product / UI / Motion)
\nStart: ASAP
\nDuration: 3 months (likely to extend)
\nRate: £450/day via Umbrella
\nOnsite: 5 days per week
\nLocation: East London
\nWhat You'll Do
\nMotion Design:
\nDefine and deliver the motion system for a mobile product experience:
\n- \n
- Loading and processing states - how the interface communicates that work is happening. \n
- Transitions between contexts - smooth, purposeful movement as users move between tasks. \n
- Approval and confirmation choreography - moments where users pause, review, and act. \n
- Content appearance - how new information reveals itself on screen. \n
- Error and recovery - how the interface communicates problems gracefully. \n
- Micro-interactions - the small things: button feedback, expansion, selection, reorder. \n
- Iconography: \n
Design a cohesive icon set from scratch:
\n- \n
- Functional icons across multiple capability areas. \n
- State indicators - processing, success, failure, pending. \n
- Any illustrations for empty states and onboarding. Prototyping and Handoff: \n
- High-fidelity motion prototypes that demonstrate timing and feel. \n
- Engineer-ready exports. \n
- Design system contributions with full usage guidelines and motion tokens. \n
Key Deliverables
\n- \n
- A motion system: principles, tokens, and reference animations. \n
- An icon set covering all functional areas and states. \n
- Motion prototypes for core user flows. \n
- Exported assets and developer handoff documentation. \n
Skills and Experience
\nEssential:
\nA portfolio that demonstrates craft in interaction and motion design for mobile - timing,
\nchoreography, micro-detail.
\nDeep expertise in motion principles: easing, duration, sequencing, and how motion communicates state.
\nExperience designing icon systems with consistent weight, grid, and visual language.
\nProficiency in Figma and a motion tool (After Effects + Lottie, Principle, Rive, or similar).
\nExperience contributing to a design system with motion and component specs.
\nUnderstanding of motion accessibility (prefers-reduced-motion, WCAG guidelines).
\nAbility to hand off work cleanly to engineers.
\nPreferred:
\n- \n
- Experience with card-based or flowing interfaces (messaging, support, or similar patterns). \n
- Familiarity with designing for dynamically generated content and real-time interactions. \n

\n- \n
- App-based product work \n
