We are seeking a Chemistry Support Specialist to join our team in Macclesfield, providing hands-on technical support to scientists within a dynamic laboratory environment.This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong mechanical aptitude, a problem-solving mindset, and a passion for supporting scientific innovation.The RoleAs a Chemistry Support Specialist, you will provide first-line technical support for chemistry equipment, including bespoke systems. You will work closely with scientists and service providers to ensure laboratory equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in line with Customer AgreementsKey ResponsibilitiesMaintain, troubleshoot, and repair: Glass jacketed reactorsHeater/chiller circulatorsPipework and fittingsRotavaps and vacuum pumpsHandle and fit gas cylinders, lecture bottles, regulators, and specialty gases safelyDiagnose equipment issues and implement effective solutionsPerform scheduled preventative maintenance tasks on Mettler Toledo equipment (full training provided)Ensure lab equipment is fit for purpose through planned maintenance schedulesManage stock levels of consumables and spare partsPerform equipment performance checks and act as a superuser where requiredCollaborate with internal/external service providers and laboratory scientistsDevelop SOPs, quick-reference guides, and risk assessmentsContribute to continuous improvement, efficiency gains, and cost-saving initiativesTrain and support colleagues where neededQualifications & ExperienceExperience working in a laboratory or similar technical environmentStrong mechanical or engineering knowledge (essential)Knowledge & ExpertiseGood understanding of laboratory processes and safety standardsFamiliarity with: SOPs and KPIsPressure systems and material compatibilityKnowledge of laboratory plumbing (e.g., Swagelok) is advantageous (training provided)SkillsCompetent with workshop tools and hands-on technical tasksStrong problem-solving ability with a logical approachExcellent communication skills (written and verbal)Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Teams, Word, Excel)Good planning, organisational, and time management skillsAbility to manage workload independently in line with SLAsPersonal AttributesCustomer-focused with a collaborative mindsetSelf-motivated and accountableFlexible and adaptable to changing prioritiesMechanically minded with a proactive approach to problem-solvingCommitted to high standards, continuous improvement, and excellencePositive, respectful team player with strong influencing skillsWhy Join VWR?At VWR, you'll be part of a team that plays a vital role in supporting groundbreaking pharmaceutical research.
