Position Overview

Department: Float Pool

Schedule: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM, with a rotation of every third weekend and holiday.

This role involves providing care across various departments, including Emergency, Med/Surg, ICU, and potentially the Family Birth unit.

Experience: 1-2 years of RN experience in critical care settings (Emergency, ICU, PACU) is strongly preferred. Previous training in ultrasound IV is advantageous.

Job Summary

The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver direct nursing care in alignment with the established policies, procedures, and protocols of our healthcare organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enhance patient care quality and life by applying medical-surgical nursing standards and systematically evaluating nursing practices.
  • Build effective relationships and advocate for patients and their families to create personalized care plans.
  • Utilize the nursing process to formulate and execute care plans, gather assessment data, establish nursing diagnoses, and evaluate patient outcomes.
  • Develop assessment and management strategies considering various dimensions of human responses to health issues.
  • Demonstrate understanding of how illnesses affect patients' physical, functional, cultural, social, economic, developmental, spiritual, vocational, and leisure aspects.
  • Employ leadership skills to coordinate with patients, families, communities, and the interprofessional team in assessing needs and planning interventions.
  • Engage in effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare providers to ensure culturally sensitive and ethical care.
  • Educate patients and families on health promotion, maintenance, and comfort measures.
  • Promote a healthy work environment by mentoring nursing colleagues and students.
  • Apply evidence-based practices in medical-surgical nursing to ensure care meets age-specific and clinical needs.
  • Maintain a state of alertness and safety while performing duties.
  • Conduct point-of-care testing as per established policies.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education: Graduate from an accredited nursing school or equivalent educational background for licensing.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year as a registered nurse for Ministry Float or two years for Regional Float.
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly communicate verbally to share information.
  • Frequent standing and walking are required.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, reaching, and data entry tasks.
  • Regular use of vision for near and far distances, as well as color differentiation.
  • Frequent use of smell and hearing for communication and safety alerts.
  • Occasional lifting of objects weighing 25-50 lbs and moving patients.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, and other physical movements.
  • Rarely required to crawl or run.
