Practice Location:

  • Albany - 315 South Manning Blvd, Albany, NY 12208
  • Troy - 2215 Burdett Ave, Troy, NY 12180
  • Hours of Operation: Monday - Friday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM; closed on weekends.

Compensation Package Highlights:

  • Initial Annual Salary: $550,000 - $600,000 for the first two years, plus a WRVU productivity model.
  • Annual Salary: $650,000 for years three to five.

Practice Overview:

Our organization is affiliated with a leading cancer center in Buffalo, NY. The hematology/oncology program will employ the physicians.

  • Physicians typically see 15-18 patients per day (with the option to increase patient volume if desired).
  • Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) manage around 10-12 patients daily.
  • During hospital rounds, physicians do not have assigned patients.
  • Average Daily Hospital Census: 20-30 patients.
  • Office schedules and call loads are designed to be manageable and equitable.
  • Average patient volume at the Albany Clinic: 50-80 patients per day, with an average of 30-38 infusion visits daily.
  • Average patient volume at the Troy Clinic: 40 patients per day, with 15-20 infusion visits daily.
  • Nurses, APPs, and MDs are involved in administering antineoplastic agents.
  • MDs and APPs perform intrathecal, intralesion, and intracavity procedures.
  • Bone marrow and FNA biopsies are primarily conducted by Interventional Radiology.
  • Nurses manage VAD catheters.
  • Intrapleural therapies are provided in an inpatient setting.
  • We are collaboratively pursuing clinical trials.
  • The Oncology Service Line consists of approximately 80% oncology and 20% benign hematology.
  • The Oncology Services Line is transitioning to a 1:1 MD to APP model.

Patient Demographics:

  • Patients come from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Age range includes Geriatric to Young Adult (no pediatric patients).
  • High volumes of pancreatic, breast, colon, and urology cases.
  • Lower volumes of melanoma and renal cases.
  • Physicians have access to various specialties within the system (Thoracic, GI, H&N, and GU).
  • The GI group operates independently but collaborates effectively with the Oncology Service Line.
  • The Oncology Service Line does not manage acute leukemias.
  • Currently, there is no BMT/TCT program within the Oncology Service Line.

Support Staff:

  • Our nursing team achieved Magnet designation in 2022.
  • Each physician is assigned a Primary Nurse for triage calls and paperwork.
  • Dedicated Nurses are available in both the Albany and Troy clinics to assist with patient management.

Additional Support:

  • Four full-time pharmacists are available to assist with chemotherapy questions and are very approachable.

Call Responsibilities:

  • Inpatient consult/call responsibility follows a 1:5 schedule.
  • The future goal is to achieve a 1:7 schedule.
  • Consult Service: Hospitalists admit patients, and dedicated inpatient APPs manage care.
  • After-hours call responsibility: Monday - Thursday every five weeks.
  • Weekend call responsibility: Friday - Sunday every five weeks.
  • EMR: EPIC.

Tumor Boards: GU, GI, Breast, Thoracic, General.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold Board Certification with the American Board of Internal Medicine, with subspecialty certification in Medical Oncology and Hematology, or be in the process of obtaining it.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and a desire to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills alongside strong clinical abilities.
