Job Summary:

This role involves capturing x-rays of specific areas of the human body for diagnostic purposes while providing essential support to the imaging department. Responsibilities include performing plain films, fluoroscopy, portable exams, and operating room exams, as well as conducting Bone Density assessments (BD registry required).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Communicate procedures to patients to ensure they understand the process and provide relevant educational materials.
  • Transport patients to and from clinical areas, confirming their identity in accordance with established policies.
  • Prepare patients for radiology exams by positioning them appropriately.
  • Adhere to radiation safety protocols to minimize unnecessary exposure.
  • Prepare and administer contrast media and medications within the scope of practice and in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Monitor patients during procedures and report any unusual activity; suggest updates to protocols as necessary.
  • Ensure timely submission of high-quality images and documentation to PACS, including correct lead markers and patient data/history.
  • Maintain equipment functionality and report any issues to the appropriate personnel, locking/tagging out equipment when necessary.
  • Keep the department clean and organized, including procedure rooms, storage areas, and dressing rooms.
  • In emergency situations, may perform limited CT procedures if the CT Technologist is unavailable.
  • Maintain a state of alertness and safety while performing duties.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Completion of a Radiology Technology program.
  • Experience: No prior experience required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent use of vision for both near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) distances.
  • Regular use of hearing and speech for effective communication.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and push/pull objects weighing up to 25 lbs frequently.
  • Frequent patient handling and movement.
  • Occasional lifting of objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, and repetitive movements.
  • Rarely kneeling or sitting.
Required Certifications:
  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Radiologic Technologist Certification - Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) or equivalent for other states
  • ARRT-R Radiography or ARRT-BD Bone Density - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
