Location: Lowell General Hospital - 295 Varnum Avenue - Lowell, MA
Hours: 40 hours per week - Days, Evenings, and Overnights - Rotating Weekends and Holidays
Job SummaryThis role involves being an allied health professional focused on delivering advanced emergency and non-emergency medical care to critical and emergent patients. You will operate with an expanded scope of practice and medication formulary, utilizing your extensive knowledge and skills to provide care during both emergent and non-emergent medical transport. As part of a comprehensive mobile integrated response team, you will work under medical supervision, conducting thorough assessments and utilizing available diagnostics to collaborate with medical control physicians. Your goal will be to determine suitable treatments and management strategies for patients with acute and chronic conditions, ultimately aiming to reduce emergency department visits and hospital admissions. You will also respond to patient care needs, make appropriate referrals, and educate patients and their families about their medical conditions. Communication with board-certified emergency physicians or the patient’s attending physician will be essential, as will collaboration with the healthcare system and other services to ensure quality care.
Minimum Qualifications- Completion of an accredited Paramedic program.
- Nationally Registered Paramedic certification.
- Massachusetts Paramedic certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Valid Massachusetts driver’s license.
- Two (2) years of relevant experience.
The following duties outline the general nature of the work and are not exhaustive. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed:
- Adhere to performance improvement clinical benchmarks.
- Handle phone communications professionally.
- Complete necessary patient care documentation in the electronic medical record systems.
- Utilize safety equipment and avoid hazards.
- Follow clinical protocols, plans, policies, and physician orders accurately.
- Participate in peer review quality assurance and department rounds as required.
- Attend at least six (6) department rounds annually unless exempted.
- Exhibit effective scene management and leadership, adhering to Incident Command System (ICS) protocols.
- Efficiently follow operational procedures to maximize resource utilization.
- Demonstrate positive teamwork and initiative during EMS operations.
- Collaborate professionally with allied health and public safety personnel.
- Perform lab draws as ordered and document in the hospital EMR (Epic).
- Maintain supplies and ensure equipment cleanliness on mobile units.
- Conduct various medical procedures as needed, including 12 Lead EKGs and wound care.
- Complete all required training within one year of employment to operate within an expanded scope of practice, covering areas such as rapid sequence intubation and advanced ventilator operation.
