Orthopedic Sports Medicine Surgeon in Ohio - $933k base salary + $100k Sign on Bonus + bonuses

Exciting Opportunity

We are looking for a Board Certified or Board Eligible Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgeon to become part of our hospital-based practice. The preferred candidate will have completed a fellowship in sports medicine, showcasing proficiency in shoulder and knee arthroscopy, and a desire to broaden services to include elbow and hip arthroscopy. This position offers a fantastic chance to develop a sought-after sports medicine program within a well-established orthopedic team, backed by a robust referral network.

Compensation Package

Option 1:
Base salary of $703,829* (50th percentile MGMA for recent graduates) with additional compensation based on experience, guaranteed for two years. This can transition to a wRVU production contract upon surpassing targets.

Option 2:
Base salary of $933,610* (75th percentile MGMA) guaranteed for one year, after which it will switch to a wRVU production contract.

A 5% reduction applies for those who are not yet board certified, with salary adjustments made upon certification.

Contract Details

• Vacation: 29 PTO (paid time off) days, plus an additional 5 days PTO upon achieving 75th percentile wRVUs.
• CME/Books & Journals: 5 days PTO and up to $5,000 for educational expenses.
• Deferred Compensation: 457b plan allowing deferral of up to $23,500 annually before taxes, with no matching.
• Retirement/Savings Plan: 403b plan permitting deferral of up to $23,500 annually before taxes for those under 50, and $31,000 for those over 50, with a dollar-for-dollar match up to 2% of base salary.
• Relocation Assistance: $10,000 provided to a moving company.
• Malpractice Insurance: Coverage under a claims-made policy, with limits of $2,000,000 per claim and $6,000,000 aggregate.
• Health Insurance: Minimal premium paid by the physician, deducted from salary.
• Liquidated Damages: A 70-mile and 2-year non-compete clause, or liquidated damages equivalent to one year’s salary.
• Bonus Opportunities: Attractive bonus incentives up to 10% of salary.
• Medical School Loan Repayment: Up to $200,000 ($25,000 per year for each year of service commitment).
• Sign-On Bonus: 15% of base salary, up to $100,000 (paid upon contract signing and forgiven over 2-4 years based on the bonus amount).
• Residency/Fellowship Stipend: Up to $25,000 paid in quarterly installments during the final two years of training.

Practice InformationLocation

Our orthopedic practice is located at a well-equipped facility.

Work Schedule

• Monday-Thursday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
• Friday: 8:00 AM - 11:30 AM
• No evening or weekend office hours.

Staffing

The practice consists of 6 providers and 8 clinical staff members, including CMAs, LPNs, orthopedic technicians, 4 front office personnel, 2 surgery schedulers, radiology support, and athletic training assistance.

Call Schedule

The call rotation is 1:4.

Patient Load

• 25-40 patients per day in the clinic.
• Office procedures include joint injections, aspirations, pin removals, and cast applications/removals.
• 4-8 procedures performed daily in the hospital.

Sports Medicine Focus

This role provides the chance to lead and expand the sports medicine service line. The ideal candidate will perform advanced procedures such as:

• Shoulder and knee arthroscopy
• Complex ligament reconstruction and/or revision
• Meniscal debridement and repair
• Chondroplasty and cartilage restoration
• Rotator cuff and labral repairs
• Additional procedures like elbow and hip arthroscopy are encouraged.

Trauma Care

Our facility handles a consistent volume of community trauma cases. While we are not a designated trauma center, we manage:

• Long bone, periarticular, pediatric, periprosthetic, and hand/foot fractures.
• Proximal humerus and hip fractures are particularly prevalent.
• Most open fractures and complex pelvic/acetabular trauma are referred to specialized centers.

Joint Replacement Surgery

There is an opportunity to perform both primary and revision joint arthroplasty, including:

• Knee, hip, and shoulder replacements.
• Collaboration with a fellowship-trained arthroplasty specialist.
• Elbow arthroplasty could enhance our service offerings.

Hand Surgery Services

Current offerings include:

• Carpal and cubital tunnel releases
• Management of compression neuropathies
• Soft tissue mass excisions and thumb CMC arthroplasty
• Potential to expand into flexor tendon repair, Dupuytren's contracture management, and ligamentous wrist repair.

Pediatric Care

While there are no inpatient pediatric cases, we seek to provide outpatient pediatric sports procedures, including:

• Knee and shoulder arthroscopy
• Patellofemoral realignment
• Management of chondral lesions
• Fracture care and benign lesion excision.

Foot & Ankle Surgery

Most procedures are currently managed by in-house podiatrists, but orthopedic collaboration is welcomed, particularly in:

• Ankle arthroscopy
• Ligament repair and reconstruction
• Management of chondral lesions.

Spine Surgery

No spine surgeries are performed in-house; cases are referred to regional neurosurgeons, with support from on-site pain management services.

Equipment and Facilities

Office: Equipped with cast saws and x-ray facilities.
Hospital: Features computers in every room, CPMs, patient lifts, air mats for safe patient handling, Hana tables, Wixon, Beach chairs, peg board positioning devices for surgery, mini C-arms, and standard C-arms.

Additional Information

Our organization has 248 staffed hospital beds and serves a community of approximately 250,000. Established in 1966 as a not-for-profit entity, we employ over 3,000 individuals and have a medical staff of more than 300.
