Oncology Hospitalist
Job Description
Join a physician-led multispecialty group comprising over 650 providers, dedicated to a collaborative approach in patient care. The role of the Oncology Hospitalist involves overseeing inpatient oncology care at our regional medical center. This includes the acute management of current hematology and oncology patients, as well as providing inpatient consultations for hematologic or oncologic concerns referred by other physicians. The position also encompasses traditional Internal Medicine responsibilities, with a specific emphasis on hematology and oncology. Inpatient oncologists will coordinate necessary chemotherapy treatments alongside the primary oncologist and manage patients receiving radiation therapy.
The Oncology Hospitalist collaborates closely with ambulatory medical oncologists at our Cancer Institute, which has locations in Boise, Nampa, Caldwell, and Ontario, along with telemedicine options available throughout the region. Our Cancer Institute offers a comprehensive practice that is QOPI certified and CoC accredited, providing enriching opportunities, including access to over 100 clinical trials. The integrated program features leading surgical expertise, including the state’s only fellowship-trained surgical oncologist, along with other highly specialized physicians to support our expanding program.
Support: The dedicated 10-bed inpatient unit at our regional medical center in Boise is currently staffed by another oncology hospitalist and two full-time advanced practice providers (APPs). The full-service cancer center offers collaborative support from medical, radiation, and surgical oncology, ensuring an integrative care team that includes advanced practice providers, nurse navigators, social workers, genetic counselors, and nutritionists. Weekly tumor boards facilitate collaboration with our fellowship-trained surgeons specializing in breast, plastic/reconstruction, gynecologic oncology, colorectal, neurosurgery, thoracic, and esophageal fields. Innovative initiatives include lung cancer screening, a lung nodule clinic, neuro-oncology services, and extensive clinical trials through the Montana Cancer Consortium. Primary care providers in key areas throughout the Treasure Valley support our specialists.
Requirements:- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree;
- Completion of an accredited ACGME/AOA Internal Medicine residency program;
- Board certification or the ability to obtain certification within three years of employment through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or the American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS);
- Completion of a Medical Oncology/Hematology fellowship is preferred but not mandatory;
- Board certification in Medical Oncology/Hematology is preferred;
- Fellowship training in onco-hospitalist is preferred;
- Ability to obtain Idaho medical licensure and privileges at our regional medical center and other affiliated hospitals as necessary;
- Valid controlled substance registration with the Board of Pharmacy and DEA.
