Grant Writing and Research Internship

Location: St James Research Centre, Falkirk, Scotland

Schedule: Tuesday through Thursday, 10 am to 5pm

Company Description St. James Research Centre (SJRC), established by Global Family Care Network in Scotland, focuses on research and program implementation in community-based development, prevention of modern slavery, rehabilitation and psycho-therapeutic programs for young survivors of human trafficking, and orphan care. SJRC is accredited by the British Accreditation Council and operates from St. James Church in Falkirk, a historic building within walking distance of local amenities. The centre is connected to a global network of professionals working in anti-trafficking, community development, orphan care, and program evaluation. Global Family uses evidence-based approaches aligned with peer-reviewed research to prevent trafficking and abuse, strengthen families and communities, provide services to survivors of commercial sexual exploitation, and train caregivers.

Role Description This internship focuses upon grant writing and research in the area of foster care. The internship is based in Falkirk at St. James Research Centre. Intern group one will support the identification of funding opportunities, assist in drafting and refining grant proposals, and help develop clear project narratives and budgets aligned with organizational priorities. Intern group two will conduct research surrounding fostering in Scotland and the challenges of caring. Interns will collaborate with team members, staff, and members of the community (potential) to clarify program objectives, ensure proposals and research reflect evidence-based practices, and contribute to the overall mission of Global Family Care Network.

• Strong research, writing, and analytical skills

• Proficiency in proposal writing and budgeting to draft clear grant applications and assist in developing accurate, realistic financial plans.

• Effective communication skills, including the ability to write clearly for diverse audiences and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.

• Interest in topics such as community-based development, human trafficking prevention, rehabilitation, orphan care, and social impact evaluation.
\n
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and maintain attention to detail in written and numerical work.
\n
• Relevant academic background or ongoing studies in fields such as social sciences, public policy, international development, psychology, or related disciplines.

• Familiarity with basic research methods and comfort using standard productivity and research tools (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, databases).
\n
• Demonstrated commitment to ethical practice, confidentiality, and sensitivity when working on issues affecting vulnerable populations.

As part of the internship, you will take part in 2 academic courses (free of charge) in the subject areas of Family-Based Alternative Care for Orphans and Strengthening Underserved Communities
