Job Description

Senior Design EngineerThe RoleThe purpose of this role is to lead and carry out detailed structural design and checking of temporary works and permanent works for civil engineering, and to provide technical support to design assist with operational activities.Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical designLead, prepare and oversee detailed technical designs (including calculations, drawings, risk assessments, design certificates)Undertake preliminary designs and coordination with other partiesObtain independent checks and/or third-party technical approvals (e.g. for rail works)Ensure design outputs meet CDM, health and safety and environmental compliancTechnical supportProvide technical information and advicePropose and/or develop value-engineered alternative solutions (during design or construction phases)Undertake a technical review of method statements for complex or unusual methodsUndertake a review of defects or compensation events and advise on solutionsAdministrative supportAssist with the approval of external suppliersAssist with the developing and maintaining processes, procedures and standards for technical designObtain or provide pricing for estimating purposesGeneral responsibilitiesLiaise with clients, customers, suppliers and third parties as necessaryAssist with promoting best practices internallyAssist with promoting the Company to customerAbout youEssentialPrevious experience within the structural engineering field, experience in the detailed design of structures either permanent or temporary works including the use of frame analysis software, structural design software and the use of CAD software for design purposes and sketchesAbility to carry out calculations by hand or in software such as MathCADWorking knowledge of relevant industry specifications (Eurocodes, BS 5975 and other BS standards for structural design still used in the industry)Experience in a structural engineering office carrying out design calculations, analysis and developing or following structural methodology and overseeing other team membersDegree, or equivalent, in Structural Engineering or Civil EngineeringThorough knowledge of structural principlesKnowledge of construction processes, methods, etc.Ensure designs meet performance, safety, quality and cost requirements.Good team worker and able to coach others, but also able to exercise own judgement and work independently and manage own time and tasksEffective communicator and able to assert own viewAbility to identify structural suitability, critical load casesDesirableA mix of site and design office experienceIncorporated or Chartered membership, or equivalent, with a relevant professional institution (or en route to achieving such a qualification)CSCS cardFrom the moment you join us, your well-being and career aspirations will be supported by.Competitive salaryCompany PensionLife AssurancePrivate Medical25 days of annual leave in addition to 8 public bank holidays and loyalty daysEmployee Assistance Programme to support your mental, physiological and financial wellbeingFlexible benefits via salary sacrificeCompany car/green car scheme/car allowance/Van (dependent on position)Leadership & management training and coachingRegular line management engagement and appraisal to support your career progressionTPBN1_UKTJ
