About the Greater Manchester RegionThis region employs around 2,500 individuals and encompasses Manchester Memorial Hospital, a community facility with 249 beds, Rockville General, a 102-bed campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a large multispecialty provider group, and visiting nurse services. Together, we serve a population of 300,000 across 19 towns.
Role OverviewAs a Registered Nurse, you will utilize the nursing process to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care, both directly and indirectly. You will coordinate care by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, patients, and their families. Effective communication regarding the patient's clinical status is essential, as is the ability to respond promptly and accurately to any changes in condition or treatment response. You will also demonstrate an understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan, ensuring age-appropriate care for the patient population. This role promotes the nursing profession through supportive interactions and collegiality, reporting directly to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
Qualifications-
Education/Certification:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program and possession of a current Registered Nurse license in Connecticut.
- Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required upon hire.
- Experience: Prior experience in surgical or labor and delivery, particularly assisting with C-sections, is mandatory.

Job-Specific Competencies- Conduct comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients, considering psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural factors.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to create, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans based on assessment data.
- Adhere to the five medication rights to minimize medication errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their administration according to patient age and clinical condition.
- Provide patient care in a safe environment that promotes positive outcomes, following established policies for patient identification and surgical procedures.
- Document nursing processes and patient responses promptly using appropriate tools.
- Exhibit flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under pressure, employing critical thinking and sound judgment in prioritization and delegation.
- Practice autonomously in alignment with evidence-based standards, pursuing personal and professional development while serving as a role model and mentor.
- Understand growth and development principles to provide age-appropriate care, interpreting patient data to meet specific needs.
- Deliver accurate reports on patient conditions for safe transitions of care.
- Prepare surgical rooms efficiently with all necessary instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment.
- Maintain aseptic technique throughout surgical procedures, identifying and addressing any breaches in technique.
- Communicate effectively with the surgical team regarding the accounting of sponges, needles, and instruments, reporting discrepancies immediately.
- Handle, label, and process specimens accurately.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the scrub role.
