Job Description
Our organization’s esteemed Social Work Emergency Services team addresses social challenges and needs within the Emergency Department and across inpatient services. This role involves conducting biopsychosocial evaluations and applying trauma-informed, strengths-based strategies. Additionally, we advocate for and manage the needs of both patients and their families.
Primary Responsibilities- Addressing social needs and concerns in the Emergency Department and throughout inpatient services.
- Conducting biopsychosocial evaluations and specialized trauma assessments.
- Implementing trauma-informed, strengths-based interventions for patients and their families.
- Assessing patients for needs related to social determinants of health.
- Offering case management and advocacy for patients and families.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and community providers to support patients and families.
- Delivering brief, solution-focused interventions and creating safety plans as necessary.
- Utilizing techniques such as motivational interviewing, reflective listening, and trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy to assist patients and families.
- Providing crisis intervention and problem-solving assistance as required.
- Offering information, referrals, and counseling regarding child protective services, intimate partner violence, end-of-life issues, community violence, substance use, mental health concerns, and homelessness.
- Delivering education, crisis intervention, and emotional support to patients and families as needed.
- Maintaining effective communication with various healthcare professionals and team members.
- Building and sustaining therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- A master’s degree in social work.
- Prior experience in medical social work is highly desirable.
- Strong clinical skills and familiarity with various therapeutic approaches.
- Cultural sensitivity and comfort working with diverse racial and ethnic groups; cultural competence is crucial. Bilingual or bicultural abilities are advantageous.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment (a sense of humor is appreciated!).
- LICSW certification in the state of MA is required.
This is a full-time, 40-hour position that requires 100% onsite presence, with rotating evening and night shifts. New employees are eligible for a sign-on bonus of $5,000.
